World Agrochemical Network Chinese Network Report: Recently, the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Drug Administration APVMA announced that it intends to register Bayer's acaricide Interrupt 240 SC (containing 240g/L spiromelodil SC) and its active ingredient spirodilate.

Spironofen will provide an acaricide with a novel mode of action for use in Australia against the two-spotted leaf mite (Tetranychus urticae) that infects pear and drupes. Interrupt 240 SC acaricide is used to control two-spotted mites in pear fruits and drupes, it is recommended to use a vertical sprayer at a rate of 50-60 mL/100 L to the outflow point to ensure complete coverage of leaves and fruits, with a maximum of 1.6 L/ha per crop per season.

spiromesifen (common name: spiromesifen, trade name: Oberon) is a spirocyclic ketoic acid insecticide and acaricide developed by Bayer, which is mainly used to control whiteflies and leaf mites in cotton, vegetables and ornamental plants. The dosage form is mainly 240g/L suspension. The patent CN1174676C of spironodilofen in China has expired in January 2020.

The mechanism of action of spironofen is to affect the development of whiteflies and mites, interfere with the biosynthesis of their liposomes, especially for the larval stage, and can also produce ovarian tube closure, reduce the reproductive ability of mites and whitefly adults, and greatly reduce the number of eggs laid. Spironofen is considered to be locally systemic in plants, moving inside plant leaves, allowing it to act on mites that are not in direct contact with the spraying surface. The mites are affected very quickly after application, and the effect is noticeable within 4 to 10 days after application.

Spironofen was first registered in the UK in 2003 and first marketed in 2005 and is now registered in several countries, including the UK, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Panama, Spain, Italy and Mexico. Shandong Weifang Runfeng Chemical Co., Ltd. registered 98% of the original ingredient (EX20220033) and 240 g/L suspension (EX20220055) are only exported to Panama.
