"Chenjiagou 'Impression Tai Chi' Global Theater"
The "Impression Tai Chi" Global Theater is located in the core area of Chenjiagou Tourist Scenic Spot, a national fourth-level tourist attraction, and is the birthplace of Chen's Tai Chi.

Project Brief Introduction

The total land area of the project is 2.73 hectares, with a total construction area of 17,150 square meters, and each performance can accommodate more than 1,200 audiences.

On the north side of the site is the modern style Tai Chi exhibition hall that has been built, and on the south side is the retro style Tai Chi Museum, the two styles are very different and not in harmony.

Design Concept
DESIGN CONCEPT
Combined with the current situation of the surrounding area of the project, the following design objectives are proposed: 1) to create a cultural display platform to help apply for intangible cultural heritage; 2) Promote the inheritance of regional culture and create social benefits; 3) Improve public service facilities and stimulate the vitality of villages.

Therefore, the above elements such as roofs and roads are organically connected with the surrounding site, and the site form and space are naturally transitioned, and the form treatment and skin materials are used to hide the building in the site, so as to coexist harmoniously with the built environment. At the same time, considering that the main constituent elements of the village form are low-rise houses, the large-scale building volume will inevitably destroy the original style. The theater is sunk by 6m to form a sunken theater, which hides the building volume and becomes an embedded landscape building.

"Tai Chi Invisible"
Tai Chi is the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture, which is intended to contradict and unify the two aspects of opposites. Therefore, the design does not stick to the traditional architectural form, but expresses the character and spatial tension of the building with a concise and unrestrained roof, creating a fusion space that is both traditional and modern, artificial and natural, civilized and wild, just like the personality of Tai Chi is also soft and rigid; The modern landscape treatment and reflective skin materials integrate the new building into the built environment, wandering between the modern and the traditional, showing the cultural essence of Tai Chi's "opposition and integration".

A zen-like performance space
"Impression Tai Chi" is a large-scale indoor immersive performing arts project produced by Zhang Yimou as the artistic consultant and Guanwei, a subsidiary of Sanxiang Impression. Therefore, the theater adopts a circular island stage to blur the boundary between the auditorium and the stage, and the auditorium is also a performance stage. During the performance, the audience can interact with the performers, creating an immersive stage and creating an extraordinary viewing experience, which in turn encourages visitors to experience Tai Chi culture in a new way.

Dissolves into the environment
"Disappearance" does not mean simply hiding the building, but blurring the volume and boundaries of the building itself, blending in with the surrounding environment. In terms of design approach, it can be achieved by eliminating the building volume in the environment and integrating the exterior elements with nature. Through two concentric circles with internal logic and dynamic free curves as the main forms, the roof of the building gradually "grows" from the ground, forming a base map relationship of "virtual and real", which is a metaphor for the relationship between Tai Chi culture and the site environment.

The spirit of the place
The landscape details are made of local stone and planting, starting from multiple contexts, through contrasts and fusions, expressing the spirit of the place belonging to the Tai Chi Theater. Outdoors creates a path to perceive nature, and realizes a multi-level experiential scene artistic conception through multi-level three-dimensional paths.

After the completion of the project, it will provide a distinctive public activity space for tourists and villagers. The theater has successfully held a number of Taijiquan-themed theatrical performances, as well as martial arts competitions, mass dance competitions, children's dramas, young actor training and other activities, which has successfully driven the Taijiquan-themed cultural tourism and become an important local cultural tourism classic, and has also injected new vitality into the development of villages and towns.
