Ahrens & Grabenhorst from Hanover, Germany, completed the architectural design of the Freigeist Hotel in Göttingen. The building in the up-and-coming district interacts harmoniously with the historic buildings of the nearby university and the sandstone façade of the "Forum Wissen" building, which will open in 2020. The interior design by designer and artist Frank Kassner is based on the original design by Georg Rosentreter, giving the hotel's interior spaces a sophisticated artistic tone. Painter by training, Frank Kassner drew inspiration from the famous United States artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Patrick Wolters' (aka BeNeR1) graffiti work infuses the hotel with creative whimsy and creates an ideal social environment.

The hotel's public spaces feature oversized armchairs and blue velvet sofas, with walls clad in Morocco cement stone tiles and blue glass. Specially designed rugs by Nani Marquina add a bright touch of color to the living rooms and suites. The Japanese and South American restaurant "Intuu" run by Alexander Zinke offers a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, ceviche, and the Josper grill in the restaurant serves high-quality grilled dishes. The open-plan kitchen is located in the heart of the restaurant, allowing guests to choose between a bar, booth, chef's station or alfresco seating in the inner courtyard. In addition, the bar, which is converted from a shipping container, is also an eye-catching presence in the hotel.

The Herbarium pub is a blend of native plants and its setting is inspired by Belfast's pub studio Drinksology©. The team has won multiple awards for "The Death Rabbit" and "Blacktail" bars in New York, and focuses on gin-based cocktails, especially Von Hallers Gin. The Herbarium Bar's lounge features a copper fireplace that invites guests to enjoy wine and conversation. The public space includes 6 event spaces for conversations, gatherings, tastings, cooking shows and team building, which are connected as a whole by the open restaurant bar "Kreativfoyer".

The rooms and suites are decorated in a refined and clean Scandinavian style, ranging in size from 24 to 61 square metres, with oak floors, floor lamps by Santa &Cole, cool grey wallpaper and natural wooden elements. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer wide views of the city of Göttingen from most rooms. The hotel's iconic Freiblick Suite offers 61 square metres of space with a king-size bed, a separate bathtub, a fully functional living room and six floors of stunning views. L:A Bruket's organic skincare products provide natural and harmless intimate care. Guests can also make the most of the hotel's far-infrared sauna facilities. Located on the fifth floor, the spa features a gym with aerobics and equipment, a yoga room and a "Fatboy" lounge, as well as a 300-square-metre rooftop terrace with a real sandy beach.
