Chantal Joffe
Born in St Albans, United Kingdom, in 1969, he lives in London. He completed his foundation studies at Camberwell College of Arts in 1988, a BA from the Glasgow School of Art in 1989 and a MA at the Royal College of Art in 1993. In 2006, she received the prestigious Charles · Wollaston Award from the Royal Academy. Joffee's works are dominated by figures, and the brushstrokes are seemingly casual, but expressive. For her, the improvisation in her work expresses the notion of sensuality and self-disclosure.
Painting was a belief for Jofe. She has always believed that some painters are God, and painting is the most beautiful thing in the world. She once expressed: "You either fall in love with painting and believe in painting, or the opposite." In a way, it's a bit like religion. You either doubt or believe. It's a belief mechanism, and so is conceptual art. It's not that I don't like conceptual art, I just don't work that way. ”
