Marvel's return to San Diego Comic-Con, predicting big events in 2024

Marvel's return to San Diego Comic-Con, predicting big events in 2024

San Diego Comic-Con will welcome the return of Marvel Studios again this weekend, the first appearance since 2022. Due to the Hollywood labor strike, Marvel chose to be absent from this event in 2023. However, Kevin · Feige and the Marvel team will have their highly anticipated return at Thursday's Deadpool vs. Wolverine joint session and Saturday's MCU Focus.

Saturday's Marvel Symposium was one of the most high-profile events at the Comic-Con. Thomas · Sidlundon appearing on stage as Loki, and Natalie · Portman wielding Thor's hammer are all classic Marvel moments at Comic-Con. Feige is sure to announce multiple projects and release dates for future Marvel titles at the event. Here are five predictions for San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

Marvel's return to San Diego Comic-Con, predicting big events in 2024

Prediction 1: The Rolls brothers return to direct the Avengers franchise

Anthony and Joe · Robos reportedly began discussions with Marvel last week about the possibility of directing Avengers 5 and 6. Bringing the Rolls brothers back to the next two films in the Avengers franchise couldn't be more fitting for Marvel. First, the Lawworks brothers have the ability to handle the scale and scope of the Avengers films, having directed four MCU films before, including Infinity War and Endgame.

Prediction 2: Avengers: Kang Dynasty new name and plot adjustments

The fifth film, originally scheduled to be "Avengers: Kang Dynasty", features the villain Kang conqueror played by Genos · Mayos. Kang the Conqueror is positioned as the ultimate villain in the multiverse story, notably in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki. However, in December 2022, after Marvel fired Mayos, the Kang dynasty name was removed from the title.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth Avengers movie is expected to receive a new title and shift the focus to other characters. Still, Marvel has built a strong foundation for the Conquistador, and I don't think they'll give up on the role entirely. The easy solution is to recast, as there are multiple variants of Kang conquerors.

**Prediction 3:** The future of Force "Blade" is uncertain

Blade was announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con and stars Mahershala · Ali as a vampire hunter. Since that fateful day, Blade has experienced multiple setbacks that have led to production delays. In 2022, director Bassam · Tariq withdrew from the project due to creative disagreements. In November 2022, Jan · de Mega took over as director, and several screenwriters tried the script.

Last month, Demega withdrew from the Blade project. Now, Eric · Parsons is the new screenwriter. Feige recently said he doesn't have a sense of urgency to rush production for Blade, which has raised concerns about its November 2025 release date. In the absence of a director and without announcing a production date, Blade is expected to be postponed until 2026 and released before Avengers 5.

Prediction 4: More movies will be needed in 2026 and 2027

Only four Marvel movies are scheduled for Phase 6: Fantastic Four (July 25, 2025), Blade (November 7, 2025), Avengers 5 (May 1, 2026), and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7, 2027). Even if only 2 or 3 Marvel movies are released per year under Bob · Iger's orders, more will be needed in 2026 and 2027. If Blade is postponed to 2026, then another MCU movie can be released in 2026, and there are still two gaps in 2027.

Assuming a separate X-Men movie comes out after Secret Wars, Feige's logical decision might be to make a sequel, since the main characters don't need any background. The two movies that immediately come to mind are "Spider-Man 4" and "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" Part 2. Feige recently said that the script for Spider-Man 4 "will be submitted soon."

Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Xin · Liu promised fans in an April Threads post that a sequel is coming. Assuming these predictions come true, then Spider-Man 4 seems to be a hot candidate for fall 2026, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Part 2 is scheduled for February 2027.

Prediction Five: Release dates for future TV shows

In Iger's film order, another directive involves reducing the number of Marvel Disney+ episodes per year to two, assuming he is referring to live-action episodes. Currently, only Agatha: The Truth Revealed is in the plans for 2024. Quake: Rebirth is set to be released in March 2025, while a character series about visuals is scheduled for release in 2026.

As with the movie plan, Marvel needs to start setting release dates for future TV shows on Disney+. Both shows, "Iron Heart" and "Odd Man," are in post-production. "Iron Heart" was completed in 2022, with additional reshoots at the beginning of this year. The series centers on Ironheart, played by Damonie · Thorne, who first appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. "Iron Heart" is said to be released in the fall of 2025, so Feige is expected to announce an official release date on Saturday.

Another TV series that needs a release date is Odd Man. Yahaya · Abdul-Matern plays Simon · Williams, an actor and stuntman who becomes a hero. In The Official Marvel Podcast, Feige described the Odd Man as "very different from anything Marvel has ever produced." Once filming is complete, Odd Man is an ideal candidate for Disney+, launching in 2026.
