Since graduating from Northwest University for Nationalities in 2001, Yao Wei has always adhered to the belief of serving public welfare with what he has learned and adhered to the belief of "telling Chinese stories well". Over the years, he has been volunteering to organize more than 300 programs and activities for universities for the elderly, factories and mines, neighborhoods, communities, schools and other units. In 2019, he was invited to serve as the chief screenwriter and chief director of the large-scale music, poetry and dance scene stage play "Our Imprint" by the Youth League Committee of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement and warmly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with an audience of more than 300,000. In 2020, he served as the creative designer, chief screenwriter and chief director of the 4th Chinese Studies Spring Festival Gala "Millennium Rites· Chasing Dreams in China" co-sponsored by China Education Television, China Association of Integrity and Legal Education and Research Association Youth Sinology Education Base and other departments, and won the Sinology Contribution Award. He served as the chief screenwriter and chief director of the large-scale chorus scene stage play "Kindness is Like Water· Hanjiang Feelings" at the 2024 China International Education Television 2024 New Year's Eve Gala of Hubei University of Arts and Sciences. He served as the chief director and screenwriter of "The Love of Yellow Cranes", the first TV dance drama "Yellow Crane Love" in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which celebrates the 51st World Environment Day and the first TV dance drama of harmonious coexistence between man and nature in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
Over the past 30 years, Yao Wei has always adhered to the concept that art comes from the people and art serves the people, never forgetting his original intention, exercising, honing and improving himself in art practice, and gradually growing from an ordinary art learner to an art worker with the country and the people in his heart. Since joining the work, he has organized more than 10 volunteer service activities in Ningxia, Shanxi, Hebei, Hunan, Liaoning, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia and other provinces and regions. In the work of colleges and universities, on the basis of completing their own work, they made full use of their spare time to create and compose more than ten large-scale main theme works, such as "Large-scale Stage Drama to Celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Party - Always Follow the Party", "Large-scale Scene Stage Drama to Welcome the 19th National Congress - Youth for the People", "Large-scale Scene Stage Drama to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up - Carry Reform to the End", "Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China Chorus", "Large-scale Literary and Art Performance to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Party".
He was awarded the honorary title of "Shuangxin of Virtue and Art" by the Jinzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, as a visiting professor at the School of Music and Dance of Hubei University of Arts and Sciences, as an "art tutor" by the Organizing Committee of the 8th Asian International Art Competition, as an art director by the Art Troupe of Ningxia University for the Elderly, as the head of the art troupe by Yinchuan University, and as the honorary title of the official recommender of "Chinese Civilization Song".
