Summer vacation is the happiest time for teachers. In Kunming, where the four seasons are Lucky Star Chinese Restaurant, summer is cool, and the light rain tells something outside the window, at this time, reading idle books, drinking a cup of Pu'er tea, and writing a few strokes casually, are all comfortable!
Our "Ginkgo Biloba Floating Gold - Yunnan University Calligraphy Teachers and Students Seal Carving Exhibition" was launched in the Yunnan Youth Calligraphy Association on August 3, and our teachers and students have not been idle, and it is common to engrave in the classroom every day, until one or two o'clock in the evening. When I hear the sound of students next door banging on stones, I am relieved as a teacher because there is such a group of students who love to learn; As a seal carving enthusiast, it is also very happy, because there is such a group of like-minded people together to study seals, engraving, mutual dyeing, and common progress. This kind of "sea and sky" in a moderately tense state is the comfort given to us by the summer vacation.
Engraving the big seal is manual work, I carved the seal bare-chested, and I was sweating profusely. My PhD student Su Yi came to see me, and I explained to him: "I call it honesty, but if I can't be honest, how can I produce flesh-and-blood works!" ”

This exhibition was decided at the beginning of this year, and my teaching content for the entire spring semester revolves around the art of seal carving. I hope that through the exhibition, the students' seal carving level will be qualitatively improved. The students worked hard throughout the semester and were able to carve a few impressive seals. However, I was so distracted that I didn't concentrate on engraving until the end of the semester in early July. I want to be different from each print, and I don't want to go too old-fashioned, too conventional, so I find new materials, consult literature, and explore new methods to enrich my July days.
Since I got my master's degree in calligraphy in 2004, I have always been fond of engraving, and there are two prints in existence. Looking back at the works at that time, most of them are not worth seeing, but there are also considerable ones, such as the "Zhuti Old County" wire strip seal and the "Lianfang Seal" Hanbai text seal, which still feel that it can still be retained. I graduated with a master's degree in 2007 and went to teach at Yunnan University, and two years later, I was admitted to the Chinese People's University for a doctorate, and during the two years of teaching, I engraved a lot of seals, and now the commonly used seals on my calligraphy works are engraved in these two years. Two years later, in September 2009, I went to Chinese University for a doctorate in calligraphy, and soon after I arrived, I bought a small album with the inscription "Since Dr. Cheng Lianfang", thinking that the entire album would soon be pasted. However, during the doctoral study, there was a lot of pressure to study, and I had to publish two C journals and complete a decent doctoral dissertation, and the engraving was just for entertainment, so I had no time to explore it. After graduating from the doctorate, the school has scientific research requirements, and has to evaluate the title, the engraving can only be simply dealt with, and the seal is too late to paste, only randomly sandwiched in the "Chenglianfang since the doctor's print", I counted a few days ago, there are more than 80 prints, most of them are mediocre. Alas, since 2009, fifteen years in a hurry, only a few dozen seals have been carved, and thinking about it does not conform to my original intention as a seal carving enthusiast.

I have a friend who works at the county cultural center, and every day he switches between drawing, writing, and engraving, and he is so happy! He smiled and said to me, "I also have sorrows, and I may not be famous in the countryside for the rest of my life!" I said to him seriously: "University professors are writing books for the sake of rice, and they are also wasting their time, and my brother is doing what he wants to do every day, 50 or 100 years later, no matter the identity of the work, the aura of the professor no longer exists, and the people of the world only know you, but not these professors!" He bared his yellow teeth again and smiled like Maitreya Buddha.
In the past 15 years since I studied for my Ph.D., although I have not carved much, I have occasionally socialized and attended classes, and my hands have not been completely rusty. Moreover, more than ten years of philological research, and constantly improve my understanding of seal carving, this time to be able to carve a few passable seals, completely benefited from philology.
In August, most of the teachers were still enjoying a relaxing holiday, but I promised my friend that I would complete four essays, so as soon as the opening ceremony of the exhibition ended, I had to type on the keyboard.
This is my summer life, although it is very busy, I can arrange my own work rhythm, so summer vacation is also very comfortable for me.
