Following the official announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and its release on October 31, Sony has made a price adjustment to the PS4 version of Horizon Zero Dawn. According to PSPrices, the PS4 version of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, which had previously been on sale for more than two years at $19.99, has now risen to $39.99.
This price increase may be to prevent players from buying the PS4 version and upgrading to the remastered version at a lower price. The remastered version will be available on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for $49.99, while existing players will be able to upgrade for $9.99. This means that if a player chooses to purchase the PS4 version and upgrade, they will end up paying $49.98, which is the same price as buying the remastered version outright.
The PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn was launched in 2020, and although the graphics and frame rate have been improved, the materials and features of the PS4 version have been basically retained. Jan-Bart van Been, Studio Director and Art & Animation Director at Guerrilla, mentioned on the official PlayStation blog that millions of new players experience Horizon Zero Dawn every year, but as technology advances, they want new players to be able to experience a higher-quality version of the game on PS5 or compatible PC. So, together with their partner Nixxes, they completed the remake of the game. However, the doubling of the price has also caused heated discussions among players, and many players have expressed their dissatisfaction with Sony's operation.
