The yellow-breasted bunting is a bird of the genus Passerine Bunting, also known as yellow gall and grass finch; It is mainly distributed in Europe and Asia, and can also be seen in the northeast, north, and southwest of the mainland. The yellow-breasted bunting prefers shrublands, meadows, meadows and forest edges in low hills and open plains, especially shrub meadows and fields near streams, lakes and swamps, and is a typical river valley meadow shrub meadow meadow meadow bird.
Literature and studies indicate that the yellow-breasted bunting is on the verge of extinction due to human killing, and its population has declined by 90% since 1980, gradually disappearing in most parts of Eastern Europe, Japan and Russia. Currently, the yellow-breasted bunting is listed as critically endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species; It is listed as a national first-class key protected wild animal in China.
According to bird lovers, the yellow-breasted bunting is a migratory bird that breeds in northeast China and Siberia in Russia, winters in the southeast coast of China, South Asia and Southeast Asia, and passes through most of the mainland during the spring and autumn migration every year. It is speculated that the discovery should be that the yellow-breasted bunting passed through Fengqing and Yunxian for rest and foraging on its way to wintering in autumn.
The data show that Fengqing belongs to the eastern migratory bird migration area, the south-southwest migratory wintering area and the western bird migration passage area. In recent years, with the detailed implementation of the "forest chief system", the protection of natural resources and wild animals and plants in Fengqing County has been continuously increased, the forest coverage rate has increased year by year, the ecological environment has been improving day by day, and the population and number of various wild animals have increased significantly. In recent years, a variety of migratory birds under national key protection, such as black stork, Hainan fish, thick-billed green dove, crested honey eagle, snake eagle, etc., have been discovered and recorded. In December 2023, the Lincang Lancang River Provincial Nature Reserve was listed by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration as an important habitat for mammals and birds in the Lancang River in Lincang, Yunnan.
