Xinmin Evening News (reporter Shen Minlan) "Dada", following the crisp sound of knocking wood, bird watching enthusiasts time in Wusong cannon Taiwan Wetland Forest Park to track and photograph the extremely rare spotted woodpecker in Shanghai, this is the fourth time in Shanghai to record the spotted woodpecker, the first three times were in Nanhui and Gongqing Forest Park, this is also the first time to observe this woodpecker in Gun Taiwan Park.

Spotted woodpecker, with olive-green coverts from back to tail, dark brown wings, yellowish-green outer margins, nearly white wing margins, and the surface of the upper wings and the inner flight feathers are the same. The tail feathers are black , with a central pair of tail feathers that are white or yellowish white on the inside , and the outer three pairs of tail feathers with broad diagonal rows of white or yellowish white secondary spots. The iris is brown or reddish brown, and the mouth and feet are lead brown or grayish black. It is often alone, mostly foraging on the ground or branches, and less like other woodpeckers climbing on the trunk. It feeds mainly on ants, beetles and other insects.

The Banji woodpecker is a migratory bird that passes through Shanghai and makes a temporary stop at Guntai Park, where it is found and documented by bird lovers.
