Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

author:Qingshi Benji

In July 180 BC, Lü Yan, the first empress dowager in Chinese history, died;

More than a month later, in September 180 BC, the "Fengpei clique" led by Zhou Bo and others suddenly launched a coup d'état, slaughtering the Lü clan and Liu Bang's eldest son Liu Ying, known in history as the "Change of Zhulu".

Everyone has their own views and opinions on what is right and wrong with the "change of Zhulu", and Qing Shijun will not repeat it here.

Today, I want to talk about Zhou Bo.

The good brother who first participated in the revolution and carried a gun with Liu Bang;

That "thick and thin text" made the eldest brother rest assured, thinking that he could stabilize the good brother of the Liu family;

The good uncle who called Lü Hou the eldest sister-in-law and "fully" supported her great prince Lü's kings;

The recognized man of kindness;

It was also the Lieutenant Zhou who turned his face ruthlessly and personally led the team to destroy the only bloodline of the eldest brother and sister-in-law.

So, what kind of person is this Zhou Bo? From the thick-hearted man that the eldest brother and sister-in-law all think, to the ruthless butcher who turns his face and does not recognize people, what is the logic behind Zhou Bo's contradictory behavior before and after?

Today, Qing Shijun will talk with you.

Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

According to historical records, in the circle of "Fengpei Group" bigwigs who first followed Liu Bang's uprising, Zhou Bo had the most pitiful life:

Xiao He and Cao Gan were "county officials" with extraordinary strength; Fan Huan was an individual slaughterhouse with a successful career; what Lu Xie did specifically was not explicitly stated in the "Records of History", but Qing Shijun guessed: He could be inseparable from Liu Bang, the chief of the pavilion, and Lu Xuan was even worse, and he could also be regarded as a "temporary worker" of a government unit;

But Zhou Bo is different, and from all indications: this is a real proletarian:

Bo made a living weaving thin tunes and often blew pipes for funerals.

The so-called thin qu is a kind of thing similar to dustpans that is specially used for silkworm farming; Zhou Bo's main job is to weave thin koji.

The 6 words of "weaving thin music for a living" illustrate a problem from the side: Zhou Bo's family does not seem to have even the most basic land. Therefore, in order to make a living, he learned the skill of blowing pipes, often playing and eating at red and white weddings.

In 209 BC, Chen Sheng and Wu Guang rose up in Daze Township and fired the first shot against the violent Qin, and the remnants of the Six Kingdoms, who had long been suffering from Qin, responded one after another.

Because of violating the Qin law, Liu Bang, the great dragon who had been "eating soil" in the Mangzhong Mountains for a long time, finally waited for the opportunity to operate at the right time - with the help of Xiao He, Cao Shan, and others, he took the first revolutionary base area of Pei County, and was elected as the Duke of Pei.

It was also during this period that Zhou Bo joined Liu Bang's rebellion;

Gao Zuzhi was the first to rise as the Duke of Pei, and he was in the middle of the gong...

The literal meaning of "Zhongjuan" is "the person who cleans up inside", which is extended to "close to the internal servants and guards".

Judging from this position: Liu Bang and Zhou Bo should have known each other long ago, otherwise, Boss Liu would not have given his life to a stranger for no reason.

I think it's understandable. You think, one of them is a black and white mixed-up, and the other is a "craftsman" who walks the streets and alleys and attends funerals everywhere, and in ancient times and today, they are all famous "scene people" in ten miles and eight townships, and they must not look up and look down. You said they didn't know each other before, and it is estimated that even the First Emperor didn't believe it!

Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

Zhou Bo this person! Although he has been doing "handicraft work", he has thick eyebrows, big eyes, and is very strong.

In the first years of Liu Bang's land grab, this big-eyed Zhou Bo always rushed to the front line of the battle without complaint:

Shimo-eup, first deng; attack Sangsang, first climb; attack Changsha, first climb.

The first to climb, that is, in ancient siege warfare, was the first to climb the enemy walls.

Obviously, to accomplish this feat, not only need superior force, but also the spirit of not being afraid of sacrifice - because the first person to climb the wall of the enemy army is bound to be killed by madness, which can be described as nine deaths; and Zhou Bo actually completed three first climbs, which shows that he is "real"!

Qing Shijun was thinking: Perhaps it is precisely because Zhou Bo has "ascended first" again and again that Liu Bang, who has never seen people in his life, has created an illusion - this Zhou brother who always takes the lead in charging is really sincere!

However, if we link it slightly to the life situation of Zhou Bo in his early years, and think about it, the generous rewards given to the "first-to-climb warriors" in ancient warfare will find that perhaps Zhou Bo's combat bravery has another explanation - who is not afraid of death? Not forced by life?!

This is not Qing Shijun's dark heart, blindly talking. Because in the main history, this question has been clearly explored:

In 202 BC, when Liu Bang completely defeated Xiang Yu, he once asked these old brothers a question: Our brothers are nagging today, why can I Liu Bang take the world, but Xiang Yu can't?

At this time, Wang Ling, who was also a fellow villager in Pei County, and others said: Is it not because the boss is interesting enough? Year-end dividends give more! What is like Xiang Yu's crippled calf thing, not even giving overtime pay, and still thinking of his subordinates selling his life?!

Although Liu Bang finally carried out a criticism and education of Wang Ling, saying that he "knew one and did not know the second"; however, judging from Liu Bang's seven-word comments, in fact, Boss Liu also quite agreed with Wang Ling's statement - the reason why these brothers would unite under their own hands and contribute was because they could be people, could do things, and knew how to share profits with others.

Note that this is important! It has an extremely profound internal relationship with what Zhou Bo did later.

The emperor placed wine in the Luoyang Nangong, and said: "The Marquis and the generals do not dare to hide, they all speak their feelings." Why do I have the world? What is the reason why Xiang Shi lost the world? Gao Qi and Wang Ling said: "Your Majesty makes people attack the city strategically, because it is in the same interest as the world; Xiang Yu is not the case, those who have merit harm it, and the sages doubt it, so they lose the world." Shang: "The public knows the first, the unknown two...

Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

Let's go on to say:

No matter what Zhou Bo's "motivation for struggle" was, his work achievements were indeed recognized by his bosses - when Liu Bang became the king of Han, Zhou Bo also won the title of Marquis of Weiwu.

Xiang Yuzhi, with Pei Gong as the King of Han. The King of Han gave Bo the title of Marquis of Weiwu.

Later, after the establishment of the Western Han Dynasty, Zhou Bo was officially crowned by Liu Bang as the Marquis of Dai for his meritorious efforts in suppressing the rebellion of the Yan king Zang Di, with 8,180 households.

However, there is a small episode in the meantime:

In 204 BC, that is, the anxious stage of the Chu-Han struggle for dominance, Chen Ping, the first conspirator at the end of the Qin and the beginning of the Han Dynasty, changed the boss for the third time and ran to Liu Bang, who was known for his generous hand, to eat here.

And Liu Bang? It was also really interesting enough, and directly gave Chen Ping a fat shortage that was specifically responsible for the supervision of the army and protected the army.

Originally, everyone was very repulsive to this outsider; but what about this Chen Ping? Even more dare to think and dare to do it - directly accept bribes, engage in power and money transactions, and put your hand on the plate of the "abundant deceased".

However, most people were hindered by Liu Bang's face and dared not speak out.

However, Zhou Bo did not care about that set, he and the irrigation baby, directly ran to Liu Bang's big tent, said: This Chen Ping thief cheated on gold, the revolutionary position is not firm, it is not a good thing, big brother, you don't want to be deceived!

Zhou Bo's meaning is very simple, hurry up and get this "food grabbing" !

Zhou Bo, Dou Bao, etc. said to the Han King: "Although Chen Ping is as beautiful as a crown jade, there may not be any of them. When the subject Wen Ping was at home, he stole his sister-in-law; wei was intolerant of things, and he returned to Chu; if he was not in the middle, he died and returned to Han. Today, the great king honors the officials and orders the protectors. The subject Wenping receives the gold of the generals, and those who have more gold will be treated with good, and those who have less gold will be treated with evil. Peace, repeated chaos also, may the king check it! ”

Although this matter eventually ended because of Chen Ping's sophistry, Qing Shijun felt that this "small episode" was ignored by the "Shi Ji Hou Zhou Bo Shijia" and later solemnly recorded by the "Zizhi Tongjian", but inadvertently showed the fact that although Zhou Bo was a real person, he was by no means a person who "loved to suffer losses".

That is to say, if someone makes Zhou Bo feel unhappy, or touches Zhou Bo's interests, then Zhou Bo will definitely find a way to "get him"! This is another personality trait of Zhou Bo, please remember!

Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

However, in Liu Bang's place, Zhou Bo, who was a pioneer and listened to his own command every time, was definitely a good brother.

Therefore, in 195 BC, on the verge of death, Liu Bang, "mysteriously" said to his wife Lü Yan: "Zhou Bo is heavy and thick and shaowen, but the person who is in the Liu clan will be Boye, and he can be made a lieutenant!" ”

Lü Hou was also deeply impressed, and actually let this Zhou Bo be the supreme commander of the Han Empire for 15 years- Tai Wei.

So, is this Zhou Bo really as Liu Bang said, settling the Liu clan?

According to Qing Shijun, it is not necessarily!

When Lü Hou poisoned Liu Bang's favorite son, Liu Ruyi the Prince of Zhao;

When Lü Hou "snatched" the land of Liu Bang's eldest son Liu Fei the Prince of Qi, on behalf of his daughter Princess Lu Yuan;

When Lü Hou starved to death and humiliated Liu You, the King of Zhao You, who humiliated the women of the Lü family...

Did zhou Bo, who "can protect the Liu family", speak?

The answer is obviously no!

Not only that, when Emperor Hui of Han suddenly died, Lü Yan, whose mentality collapsed, wanted to destroy the "Alliance of the White Horse" (this was the rule that Liu Bang and Zhou Bo had made for the alliance with their blood) and seal the kings surnamed Lü, did Zhou Bo oppose it?

Nothing!

Not only did he not, but he and Chen Ping also found a theoretical basis for Lü Hou's "violation" behavior--Emperor Gao's determination of the world, the son of the king; now the empress dowager's title system, Wang Zhulu, everything is indispensable!

In the first year of Jiayin, in the winter of 187 BC, the empress dowager proposed to establish Zhu Lü as king, and asked the right minister to ling. Ling Yue: "Emperor Gao punished the White Horse League: 'Not the King of the Liu Clan, the whole world strikes at it.'" 'Now king Lü Shi, non-Yoye. The empress dowager did not say, and asked Zuo ChengXiangping and Tai WeiBo, and said: "Emperor Gao fixed the world, the son of the king; now the empress dowager is called a system, Wang Zhulu, everything is indispensable." "The empress dowager rejoices, strike the dynasty."

So, why didn't Zhou Bo, who once jumped to his feet because he had suffered a little loss, make a difference?

The answer is simple: during the more than ten years of Lü Hou's reign, although the kings surnamed Liu were suppressed and the descendants of the younger generation of Lü surnames also ascended to heaven, as a mature politician, Lü Hou did not touch the interests of the Peixian Gong clique.

In the fifteen years of Lü Hou's reign, although the chancellor of the Han Empire changed three stubbles, he was always circling around in the circle of the "Fengpei Group"; even when the young Emperor Hui of Han wanted to make a difference, Cao Shan, the representative of the Fengpei Group, could directly ignore the emperor's orders!

And Zhou Bo himself? He has also been sitting firmly in the chair of the highest military commander of the Han Empire.

Obviously, there were people in the court, Zhou Bo and others who spoke in the army, and there was no need to trample on the muddy waters of the kings surnamed Liu after Lü Hou. Therefore, at that time, the Great Han Dynasty maintained a fragile balance.

Zhou Bo: A "real person" who made Liu Bang and Lü Hou look away

This equilibrium was not broken until 180 BC, with the sudden illness of Lü Hou.

That year, Lu Hou, who had been in good health, was bitten by a wild dog and his body took a sharp turn.

Finally, this female politician, who had restrained herself all her life, was confused on her deathbed: she knew that several of her nephews were not instruments, so for the sake of the future of the Lu family, she took a desperate risk and put her hand on the heads of Zhou Bo and others:

In the autumn, in July, the empress dowager was seriously ill, and ordered King Lu of Zhao to be a general and a general to the Northern Army; King Lü to live in the Southern Army... Xin Wei, Empress Dowager Beng, testament: amnesty for the world, with Lü Wangchan as the Xiangguo, and Lü Lu as the empress. Gao Hou was buried, and Zuo Cheng interrogated him as emperor Taifu.

See?

In just one month, the terminally ill Lü Hou snatched both the Power of The PeiXian Military Gong Group and the Military Power at the same time.

You said that Zhou Bo, who once dared to fight with Liu Bang in the face of the gong and drum because of unfair treatment, could bear it?

Definitely can't stand it!

So, after another month, Zhou Bo, who was once considered a real person by Liu Bang and Lü Yan, took up the knife...

Therefore, perhaps it is not that Liu Bang and Lü Hou have looked away; but they have forgotten: this Zhou Bo is really a "real person"!
