Protecting the aquatic ecology is rewarded With rare fish "hemorrhoids" reappearing in Dongting Lake

Hunan Daily, New Hunan, July 9 (Reporter Zhang Shangwu Correspondent Yuan Xiping Yang Xin) The Hunan Provincial Party Committee and the Hunan Provincial Government have taken "one river, one lake, four waters" as the main battlefield, strengthened the comprehensive management of the water environment, implemented the withdrawal of fishing and prohibition of fishing, carried out breeding and stocking activities, and painted an endless ecological picture: Rare fish - "hewl" reappeared in Dongting Lake.

This morning, the scientific researchers of the Provincial Institute of Fishery Sciences carried out a scientific expedition of fish resources in key waters of the Yangtze River Basin along Dongting Lake in accordance with the arrangements of the agricultural and rural departments at the national and provincial levels. Researchers have detected two heli fish with a total length of 34 cm and 33.8 cm respectively in the "Nandongting Lake Grass Turtle Chinese Turtle National Aquatic Germplasm Resources Conservation Area" in the waters of Thatched Street in Nanxian County. Experts said that the monitoring of hemorring was 20 years away from the last time it was monitored in Dongting Lake.

"Heels", commonly known as wheat straw, belong to the order Cyprinids, Cyprinids, and the subfamily Yaros, and have historically been widely distributed in the Yangtze River and the rivers and lakes south of it. This fish feeds on invertebrates and also preys on some small fish; the minimum age of sexual maturity is 3 years old; it has the characteristics of river and lake migration, breeds in the reproductive season up the river to the main stream rapids, lays drifting eggs, enters the lakes along the river from May to July every year to fatten, and historically can form fishing floods in some lakes in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, which is an important economic fish. In recent years, due to the barrier of rivers and lakes caused by hydraulic dams, habitat degradation, water pollution, overfishing and other reasons, "heels" are difficult to find in Dongting Lake, and have been listed as key protected aquatic wild animals in Hunan Province.

Xie Zhonggui, director of the Provincial Institute of Water Sciences, introduced that the "hewl" reappeared in Dongting Lake, the upper reaches of the Xiangjiang River found "cave fish", and the proportion of "four big fish" in the catch continued to rise in one lake and four waters, all of which showed that the ecological restoration measures such as the ten-year fish ban and the cleaning and rectification of small hydropower have achieved initial results, the aquatic biological resources of the Yangtze River Basin have been recuperated, the population structure and quantity have been continuously improved, and the aquatic ecosystem has been accelerated.
