This set of albums was painted in the autumn of 1626, when Cheng Jiazhuo was 62 years old.
Although he is listed as "Mr. Jiading Fourth", it sounds like a very dignified academic appearance, in fact, he has "indulged in indulgence and love of freedom" all his life, which can be described as a veritable "unscrupulous" person among the ming dynasty masters, who subverts orthodoxy, loves food, loves sound and color, enjoys landscape and water, has a good studio, participates in Zen and worships Buddha, and does not establish merit. He had no interest in being an official, and although he was not wealthy, he preferred to wander the landscape and spend most of his life on a budget.
The album seems to be a kind of reminiscence of his past travels. Waiting on the ferry, strolling in the rain, silhouettes of donkeys, people passing by on mountain trails... Or hurrying, or stopping the reed bank, listening to the sound of autumn, or searching with a staff, riding a donkey to explore the mountain... Life is leisurely and wandering, so unhappy!
