A case of trafficking in human beings in Finland requires remote witness testimony? Zhejiang Ruian Court assisted in video evidence collection

The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) learned from the Zhejiang Provincial High Court on October 27 that the Wenzhou Ruian Municipal Court recently used the online trial platform to assist witnesses from the Southwest District Court of the Republic of Finland in completing a case of reselling people in the country to testify online. This is the first time that a court in China has provided criminal justice assistance to abroad through online video.

According to reports, the Southwest District Court of Finland intends to hear a human trafficking case, and witnesses in China need to testify in court, witnesses are difficult to go due to physical reasons and epidemic prevention and control requirements, and the court has submitted a request for judicial assistance to China, hoping that witnesses will testify through online video. The Supreme People's Court and the Finnish side have communicated on many occasions, and on the basis of mutual respect for judicial sovereignty, have determined the mode of investigating and collecting evidence in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China and the International Criminal Justice Assistance Law of the People's Republic of China on the basis of mutual respect for judicial sovereignty.

After the witnesses agreed to testify, the Zhejiang Provincial High Court instructed the Ruian Court to formulate a formation plan. In view of the fact that the video testimony needs to be docked with the Finnish court in real time and embedded in the Finnish court trial link, and the witnesses can only speak the Ryan dialect, the Ryan radio host is hired to optimize the platform functions for the dialect translation and coordination software company for the characteristics of this testimony. On September 28, in the Fifth Trial Division of the Shui On Court, the judge connected to the Southwest District Court of Finland through the "online trial platform" and questioned the witnesses according to the list of questions provided by the other party, and the platform transcribed the text in real time, and formed an electronic testimony record after the witness was proofread and confirmed by electronic signature and stamp, which was downloaded by the Finnish court and took 1 hour to complete the evidence collection.
