The origin of Lien Chan's name

author:Liang Jichao

Lian Heng (1878-1936), formerly known as Lian Yatang, was a famous historian and patriotic poet, known as "the first person in Taiwanese culture". Lian Heng was born in Taiwan. His son Lian Zhendong (a former Minister of the Interior of Taiwan), his grandson Lian Chan (former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang in Taiwan), and his great-grandson Lian Shengwen (currently vice chairman of the Taiwan Kuomintang think tank). In the turbulent years of war, Lian Heng, as a literati, was enthusiastic about China, and his patriotism was mainly reflected in three aspects.

(1) Write Shi Weiguo. Lian Heng adhered to the belief that "the country can perish but the history cannot be destroyed" and other works such as "General History of Taiwan" and "Taiwan Poetry", casting the patriotism of Taiwan compatriots, hoping that all Taiwan compatriots will not forget their own Chinese. The General History of Taiwan is Taiwan's first historical book in the style of the "History of History", including a total of 1290 years of Taiwan's history from the Sui Dynasty to 1895. In 1920, it was published in three volumes in Taiwan, when Japan colonized Taiwan, and the circulation of the book was extremely small, and it was not distributed in large quantities until after the restoration of Taiwan.

(2) Return to the hometown to establish a country. Lian Heng once told his son Lian Zhendong that "if you want to liberate Taiwan, you must first build the motherland" and asked his son to study in Japan and return to China to build. Lian Zhendong returned to China after graduation and soon joined the Kuomintang. After Japan's surrender, he came to Taiwan as a government official who accepted Japan's surrender. In his later years, Lian Heng also returned to the mainland from Taiwan.

(3) Change the name to save the country. Lian Heng returned to China in 1919 and lived in Beijing, delivered a petition to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Nationalist Government requesting the restoration of Chinese nationality, and submitted an application to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to change his name to Lian Heng (the archives are kept in China's Second Historical Archive) the day after receiving the Certificate of Chinese nationality. In 1936, before Lian Heng died of illness, he told his son Lian Zhendong that there would be a war between China and Japan in the future, your child was born, if the boy named "Lien Chan", this is the origin of Lien Chan's name. This is exactly:

Taiwan's general history relies on Fang Cong, and the vicissitudes of China speak the east wind.

Painstakingly speaking of historical events, he is a straight book.

There will be a war between China and Japan, and there will be no heroic confucianism and great merit.

Sima looked back and smiled, and now the fortunes of the family and the country are prosperous.
