Danish goalkeeper Caspar Schmeichel attended the pre-match press conference against England, at which he answered a reporter's question, which caused an uproar.
The reporter asked: "You may have heard the phrase 'it's coming home' (the theme song of the '96 World Cup, meaning football back home), what does it mean for you to prevent England from bringing home the European Cup trophy?" ”
Schmeichel replied: "Has England really ever had a European Cup trophy? I mean, have they ever won the European Championship once? （has it ever been home though? i mean, have you ever won it?）”
He later added: "Honestly, I haven't thought about what it means to stop England [of winning the title], but it's more about what it means for Denmark, a country of only 5.5 million people. ”
