Yunnan Netnews (reporter Peng Xi) on December 14, the reporter learned from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University (hereinafter referred to as the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University) that the pediatric department of the hospital recently successfully implemented the "continuous renal replacement (CRRT)" treatment technology for a newborn with acute renal failure born only 3 days ago. It is reported that this is a successful case of the longest single treatment of newborns in Yunnan Province.

According to reports, a pregnant woman gave birth to a 3900-gram baby boy in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University in November. The child has obvious edema at birth, and three days after birth, the urine cannot be solved, and the body fluid overload occurs, combined with laboratory examination, the diagnosis is acute renal failure of the newborn.

Duan Jiang, deputy director of the Department of Pediatrics and attending physician of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, introduced that due to the immature development of the kidneys of newborns, they are more likely to have acute kidney damage than older infants and children. Renal replacement therapy is an important treatment for the treatment of acute renal injury, which can prevent and correct the potentially life-threatening complications brought about by acute renal injury. The child began peritoneal dialysis treatment within 24 hours of admission, but after 48 hours of rescue, the child's renal function continued to deteriorate, and there was a guideline for continuous renal replacement.

Duan Jiang said that the neonatal sustained kidney replacement technology can only be carried out in a few advanced and developed areas in China, there is little information on this aspect of the country, and there is no ready-made mature technology and experience to learn from, which brings difficulties to treatment, increases risk points, and treatment is once in trouble.

Based on the experience of the department in carrying out continuous renal replacement in children, after full communication and consent with the family, Duan Jiang led the medical team of the department to carry out bedside renal replacement treatment for this small life. The hospital also organized elite soldiers, fully evaluated, repeatedly discussed and simulated dialysis plans, and repeatedly consulted scholars with treatment experience in developed areas to finally determine the dialysis plan. Through the cooperation of the neonatal intensive care unit, the pediatric intensive care unit, the pediatric nephrology sub-specialty group, the multidisciplinary and multi-ward team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, the 68-hour uninterrupted continuous neonatal bedside renal replacement therapy was successfully implemented for the child.

It is reported that the case fatality rate of acute kidney function injury in newborns is high, and due to the development and individual particularity of newborns, there are fewer successful cases of renal replacement therapy. This successful treatment has accumulated valuable experience for the treatment of critically ill newborns in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, and also provided new ideas for the neonatology department in Yunnan Province.
