Recently, according to foreign media reports, BMW Group has reached an agreement with microchip developer INOVA Semiconductors and chip manufacturer GlobalFoundries to supply millions of chips per year. The chips will be used in the BMW iX's in-vehicle lighting system.
Chip problems have always plagued BMW. It is understood that bmw cut production by 30,000 cars in the first half of this year because of chip problems; from mid-July, BMW's factories in Leipzig, Regensburg and Oxford stopped production for a week, and the Dingolfin factory changed from the previous three shifts to a one-shift system.
In addition, due to the shortage of chips, BMW has currently cancelled the touch screen function of some of its models. The measure is limited to the U.S. market, but if the problem cannot be solved from the source, the supply of products in the Chinese market is not guaranteed.
