Musk: No one boasts about Autopilot saving lives

A few days ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a communication with overseas magazines that he saw Tesla's self-driving technology improve every month. However, he argues that "you" are not necessarily rewarded for saving lives, but are certainly blamed for not saving lives.

Tesla's self-driving technology is facing various legal issues. Tesla's self-driving technology has been embroiled in 12 accidents since 2018. Some Tesla drivers are filing lawsuits over the death or injury caused by crashes caused by self-driving technology, while others are seeking legal action against the company because of Tesla's misrepresentation and deceptive marketing of features such as Autopilot and FSD.

He pushed hard to develop Autopilot because it would improve driving efficiency and save millions of lives each year. When activated, Tesla's self-driving technology monitors its surroundings, keeping the car in the center of the lane and maintaining a safe distance from other cars. According to Tesla, these technologies do not support autopilot, and drivers still need to concentrate on driving to avoid accidents.

Tesla's vehicle safety report also shows that in the second quarter of 2021, Tesla cars using Autopilot technology had one accident per 4.41 million miles, while Tesla cars without Autopilot had an accident rate of one accident per 1.2 million miles.

In August, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigating 765,000 Tesla vehicles produced since 2014. Previously, Tesla's FSD software caused 11 accidents involving emergency vehicles, killing 1 person and injuring 17 others.

According to an email sent to Tesla in September, NHTSA asked Tesla to provide more details of the company's confidentiality agreement with the owner and suggested that Tesla should recall the vehicle if a software update is required to fix security flaws. Tesla updated Autopilot shortly after the investigation began in an attempt to address these issues.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Musk had criticized a Tesla manager who offered to deploy a system to monitor Autopilot's failures during the development of the Autopilot project in 2015. The system will include a computer chip and additional supporting hardware, however Musk believes this will affect the development schedule of Autopilot.
