Smart cars, smart roads! The test mileage of autonomous driving in Beijing exceeds 3.65 million kilometers

The reporter recently learned from the Beijing Intelligent Vehicle Industry Innovation Center that as of the end of November, the safety mileage of road tests of autonomous vehicles in Beijing has exceeded 3.652 million kilometers. The number of license plates, test types, and open test road mileage of autonomous driving test vehicles in Beijing ranks among the top in the country.

After placing an order and requesting a car on the mobile phone APP, two or three minutes later, an autonomous vehicle drove into front of the eyes. In the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, such self-driving services have become commonplace. At the end of November, Beijing officially announced the opening of the country's first pilot project for the commercialization of autonomous driving services, and announced a supporting management policy - the "Implementation Rules for the Pilot Management of Autonomous Driving Services in the Pilot Zone of The Beijing Intelligent Connected Vehicle Policy (Trial)", in which citizens can choose to pay for self-driving cars in the pilot area. This is another breakthrough and innovation in Beijing's autonomous driving test demonstration work under the guidance of the principle of "safety first, orderly innovation", and also marks a new stage in the domestic autonomous driving field from test demonstration to commercial pilot exploration.

When people experience autonomous driving services full of technology and futurism, in order to pave the way for commercialization, Beijing's autonomous driving demonstration must put good technology and safety thresholds. From the demonstration area to the commercialization start, problems such as difficult testing, evaluation and road difficulties have become the shackles that clamp down the development of the intelligent network industry. In 2016, Qianfang Technology led the establishment of the Beijing Intelligent Vehicle Industry Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Innovation Center"), which compiled a series of group standards such as automatic driving capability assessment, road selection, test site construction, and data transmission by organizing well-known enterprises and research institutes in the industry, providing support for Beijing to take the lead in exploring the management policy and service system of automatic driving testing and multi-scenario testing in The country.

For human drivers to get on the road, they must take a driver's license, and "AI drivers" are no exception. Recently, in the test field of the Yizhuang Base of the National Intelligent Automobile and Intelligent Transportation (Beijing-Hebei) Demonstration Zone located on the west side of Nanhaizi Park, the reporter saw that in addition to common road test scenes such as intersection cars, it also contains tunnels, rain and fog, tidal lanes, simulated lighting, slippery roads, toll stations, service areas, railway crossings, etc. The "1 to 1" ratio restores the real road driving scenes in various environments. This is the first T5-level automatic driving closed test site in Beijing, which can be used for test vehicles to be tested and evaluated in more complex traffic scenarios, and then apply for a higher-level automatic driving road test test license, which can be understood as the "driving school examination room" for autonomous vehicles.

"When traditional cars do tests, such as fatigue tests and crash tests, they measure the 'bones' of the car, and in this test field, the autonomous vehicles measure the 'IQ'." Sun Yafu, vice president of Qianfang Technology and president of Qianfang Research Institute, said.

It is reported that while providing technical support for the innovation center, the intelligent intersection solution of Qianfang Technology can realize a series of integrated perception capabilities such as collision warning, blind area early warning, intersection traffic assistance, and priority passage of special vehicles such as buses, helping automatic driving to integrate into urban transportation in the future. In Beijing, its intelligent intersection vehicle-road coordination scheme has recently been fully applied in the traffic optimization demonstration project in the northwest district of the CBD, helping to build a regional-level intelligent network integrated demonstration area covering 20 intelligent intersections.
