A low-flying polar-orbiting satellite also recorded anomalous clouds in the area: a large number of flocculent or striped clouds were scattered over many parts of Anhui, Jiangsu Province, looking like scrambled sewing needles. Then some netizens have to ask, what is this "random needle ramen cloud" what is the weather phenomenon? Is it going to snow heavily in the south?
The principle behind this peculiar "random needle ramen cloud" is actually very simple, this is a more typical "aircraft cloud", also known as condensation trail or vapor wake, is a visible cloud formed by concentrated water vapor discharged by jet engines. The reason is that when the hot exhaust gases emitted by the engine cool in the air, they will quickly condense to form tiny water droplets or tiny ice crystals, thus forming a visible cloud.
Depending on the temperature, humidity and dimension of the formed airspace, aircraft clouds remain in the air for as short as a few seconds and as long as several hours. Longer-lasting aircraft clouds are called "persistent wakes" and slowly spread over time into cirrus and cumulus clouds that are several kilometers wide and two to four hundred meters high. On satellite maps, such clouds mostly appear as filamentous, linear, or needle-like clouds, which become dense in some areas where flights are particularly frequent. From the current point of view, the precipitation in the eastern part of China has increased in the short term, but for Anhui and other places in Jiangsu, where aircraft clouds appear today, it will only rain in the future.
