Today, let's talk about the origin of the Huang surname.

Huang is also one of the major surnames in China, currently ranking seventh, second only to wang, Li, Zhang, Liu, Chen and Yang in terms of population, accounting for 2.23% of the total Han Chinese population, about 26.8 million people.

Like other large surnames, the origin of the Huang surname is also more complex, and can be mainly divided into five types.

First, it comes from the official positions "HuanglongShi" and "Huangyun".

What official position does the Huang surname come from? The Yellow Dragon Master of the Fuxi Period or the Yellow Cloud of the Yellow Emperor Period.

Fuxi, the ancestor of the Chinese nation in ancient legends, is the earliest king recorded in ancient Chinese books, one of the three emperors, and the earliest documented creation god in China.

What is the official position of the Huanglong Division? Help Fuxi manage the official position of state affairs.

"Hanshu Baiguan Gongqing Table": "Mi Xi (伏羲) Dragon Master Famous Official. Note: "Ying Shao Yue: The master, the chief, is the commander of the Dragon Chronicle, so he is the Dragon Master." The spring official is the green dragon, the summer official is the red dragon, the autumn official is the white dragon, the winter official is the black dragon, and the middle official is the yellow dragon. ”

That is to say, in the Fuxi period, there were five ministers who assisted the monarch, all of whom were called dragons, and they were respectively called "spring, summer, autumn and winter", while the middle officials were called yellow dragons.

In the Yellow Emperor period, the way of remembering things often took the cloud as the standard, so the officials in the Yellow Emperor period usually used the title of "cloud", such as the spring official called Qingyun, the xia official called Jinyun, the autumn official called Baiyun, the winter official called black cloud, and the middle official called Huangyun.

This kind of statement originates from ancient times, but in fact, the credibility is not high, and it is delusional to listen to it.

Second, it comes from the surname of Yin, whose distant ancestor can be traced back to Boyi in the era of Emperor Shun, and the ancestor of the surname is Boyi's eldest son, Da Lian.

Boyi, shunzhi as the surname of Ying, is the fifth grandson of Shaohao, the eldest son of the Yellow Emperor, and is also the common ancestor of the surnames of Ying, Zhao, Xu and Huang.

Look at the following table of descendants of Bo Yi:

Branch of the State of Xu: Boyi Ruomu (Second son of Boyi, founding monarch of the State of Xu, surnamed Xu)

Branch of the State of Qin: Boyi Dalian (Bo Yi's eldest son) Zhongzhuo (Great Lian Xuansun) 蜚廉 evil female defense Side Gao Tai Several Luo Feizi (founding monarch of the Qin state)

Branch of the State of Zhao: Boyi Da Lian (Bo Yi eldest son) Zhongxuan (Great Lian Xuan Grandson) 蜚廉 Ji Sheng Meng Zengheng Father (Zhao surname of the first ancestor)

Branch of the Huang Kingdom: Boyi Dalian (Boyi Eldest Son, Founding Monarch of the Huangchuan Yellow Kingdom, Huang surnamed ancestor)

According to the "Records of History" and the "Chronicle of the Ancient City of the Yellow Kingdom", the Huang Kingdom was founded in 2148 BC, the founding monarch was Bo Yi's eldest son Dalian, and during the Spring and Autumn Period, the Huang Kingdom was once the overlord of the Huai River Valley. After the State of Chu became hegemonic, the State of Huang disobeyed, and once allied with the states of Jiang, Dao, Bai, Xian, and Sui to confront Chu, and after about 50 generations of the state, it was destroyed by the State of Chu in 648 BC.

After the fall of the State of Huang, most of its descendants took Huang as their surname, such as Huang Guo's descendant Huang Xiehou Shi Yu Chu, who was given the title of Chunshen Jun, second only to King Chu Kaolie, and was one of the four princes of the Warring States.

During the Zhou Dynasty, the State of Huang was located in the area of present-day southeastern Henan and northeastern Hubei. Huangguo Ancient City is located in Longgu Township, 6 kilometers northwest of Huangchuan County, Henan Province, and the ruins are well preserved and are national key cultural relics protection units.

This Huangguo is the Huangguo of the Surname Huang, which can also be called the Huangchuan Huangguo.

Third, it comes from the surname Ji, the distant ancestor is Boyi's father Shao Hao, and the ancestor of the surname should be Tai Xiao.

Shao Hao was the eldest son of the Yellow Emperor and had the surname Ji (also known as Ying). Shao Hao's eldest son was Zhang Huai, who was the ancestor of the Zhang surname. Zhang Hua's son is Zhang Ming, and his grandson is Zhang Taixiao.

At that time, the fenhe and tao rivers were flooded and could not be cured for a long time. Emperor Huang's grandson Emperor Huan sent Taihua, who was good at controlling water, to govern. Tai Xiao was very effective in controlling water, and after his death, people revered him as the god of Fenshui.

Later, the descendants of Tai Xiao established four small states of Shen, Ji, Gong, and Huang in this area. But by the Spring and Autumn Period, all four of these countries had been wiped out by the Jin Dynasty.

This Huang kingdom is the Huang kingdom with the surname Ji, which can also be called the Fenshui Huangguo.

After the destruction of the Huang Kingdom, the descendants of the Ji surname Huang Guo took the state as their clan and became one of the historical clans of the Huang clan. This Ji surname Huang was mainly distributed in the area of present-day Shanxi. During the Spring and Autumn Period, many members of the Huang clan served as officials in the Jin state, such as Huang Yuan, a noble minister of the Jin dynasty, who was a descendant of this Branch of the Huang clan.

However, this branch of the Huang clan, the descendants of the clan weakened, mostly into the Surname Huang clan.

Here, it is necessary to add that, that is, the relationship between the Ji surname Huang and the Zhang clan.

Look at the following illustration:

Branch of the Zhang clan: Yellow Emperor Shaohao Zhang Huai Zhang Mingtai (Zhang Clan Three Ancestors)

Branch of the Huang clan: Huang Emperor Shaohao Zhang Huai Zhang Mingtai (descendants established the Fenshui Huang Kingdom, and the descendants took Huang as their clan)

Fourth, it is derived from the surname Ji and his distant ancestor is Lu Zhen, the great-grandson of Ji Yan.

Lu Zhong was the great-grandson of the Yellow Emperor's grandson Huan Huan(顼), and Lu Zhong's eldest son Fan was enfeoffed with the Yellow Land and established the Yellow Kingdom.

This Huang kingdom can be called Xi Huang because it was east of hanshui, west of Dafushui, and southwest of Gu Suiguo in the southeast of present-day Yicheng County, Hubei. By the time of King Cheng of Chu, the Western Huang Kingdom was destroyed by the Chu people, around the middle of the 7th century BC. After the fall of the Western Huang Kingdom, future generations took Huang as their surname (there is also a saying that Lu Zhong's second son Huilian was the ancestor of the Huang clan).

And Boyi and Lu finally came out of the same clan, both are descendants of the Yellow Emperor, and see the following table:

Boyi Huang clan: Yellow Emperor Shaohao (yellow emperor's eldest son) Boyi (shaohao's fifth grandson) Dalian (boyi eldest son, founding prince of the Yellow kingdom, huang surname has the surname of the ancestor)

Lu Zhong Huang Clan: Yellow Emperor Changyi (second son of the Yellow Emperor) Lu Zhen (great-grandson of Lu Huang) Fan (also known as "Kun Wu Clan", established the Western Huang Kingdom, descendants with Huang as the clan)

Fifth, it comes from changing the surname, and the reason is nothing more than to avoid disasters, or because of excessiveness, or because of succession, or because of pronunciation, or because of fiefdoms, etc.

For example, Wang changed to Yellow: The ancient pronunciation of Huang and Wang are the same, and some of the wang surnames in the ancient Land of Minyue were changed to Huang due to pronunciation confusion. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the famous anti-Qing hero Huang Degong, originally surnamed Wang, later changed his surname to Huang.

Another example is Lu Gai Huang: Huang Gongwang, the ancestor of the Huang clan in Fuyang, Zhejiang, whose real name was Lu Jian, whose father died early, changed his surname to Huang according to Yongjia Huang. Huang Gongwang is the ancestor of the Huang clan in Fuyang.

Another example is the change of wu to yellow: wu, yellow, the ancient sound is similar. Wu Shuangrui was a tanhua at the end of the Song Dynasty, the horse of the third princess of Song Lizong, who committed suicide when the Yuan people destroyed the Song Dynasty. In order to avoid being hunted down by the Yuan Dynasty, the descendants of the Wu clan changed their wu to huang. Most of the Huang clans of Guobei in Shicheng, Jiangxi, are now descendants of Wu Shuangrui.

Another example is Ding Changing Huang: Huang Zhuben, the father of the famous literary scholar Huang Shu of the Yuan Dynasty, was originally surnamed Ding, and later entered the Yiwu people after Huang Wei, changed his surname to Huang, and gave birth to a son, Huang Yi. Today's Yiwu Huang clan is mostly a descendant of Huang Shu.

Another example is Wu Changhuang: Huang Quansan, the ancestor of the Huang clan of Xiehe in Tongcheng, whose original surname was Wu, moved to Tongcheng at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and in order to avoid the suffering of military service, he defected to his relative Lucheng Huang, and later changed his surname to Huang, becoming the ancestor of the Huang clan in tongcheng.

Another example is the change of gold to yellow: at the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, there were generals surnamed Jin who guarded Linchuan in Jiangxi, and later some descendants changed from gold to yellow due to flight, and during the Song Longxing period, the descendants of this Huang clan, Huang Xi'er, moved to Tangxi, Yingxiu Township, Chongren County, Fuzhou, Jiangxi, becoming the ancestor of the Tangxi Huang clan.

Historically, the Huang clan can be mainly divided into three major Yan schools, namely the Ziyun Yan School, the Jindun Yan Sect and the Yanshan Yan Sect.

The Ziyun Yan sect refers to the Huang surname people who live in Fujian, especially in the Chaoshan region, and most of them belong to the descendants of the Puyang, Heping and Ziyun factions, and the ancestor of the Ziyun sect is the Taishou Huang Shougong of Jin'an County in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

The Jindun Yan Sect is the abbreviation of the Jiangxia Jindun Huang Clan Wang clan, whose distant ancestor is the Eastern Han Dynasty Shangshu Ling Huangxiang, and the ancestor is the Song Dynasty Taishi Huangfu. "Xiang Jiuling, can warm the seat." Filial piety to relatives, what should be held "praise is Huang Xiang." Huangfu was promoted to the rank of jinshi in 1163, and later served as the Pingjun (i.e., Quanzhou) Youju, Jiedu envoy, deputy capital commander, and Taishi, and in the early Southern Song Dynasty, from the Xinghua Military City to Putian Huangshi Jindun (ancient reading pavilion, Jindun Temple), "Jindun" is today's Jinyuan New Village, Taijiang District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.

The founder of the Yanshan Yan sect was Huang Zhongyong, a jinshi of the Yuan Dynasty, and Yanshan refers to the Yuan Capital during the Yuan Dynasty. Huang Zhongyong was a native of Daxing County, Yanjing Shuntianfu (present-day Beijing), the capital of the Yuan Dynasty, and was of Mongolian ethnicity, with the surname Ofa, the name Zhen, and the character Zhen. In 1280, Huang Zhongyong was admitted to the ZhongjinShi, and later entered Fujian as an official, and died in Fuzhou in early April 1326, and was buried in Nan'an, Quanzhou, Fujian.

In summary, the Huang surname has many sources, and the surnames from Yin and Ji should be the mainstream Huang surnames.

There are three main ancestors, namely Bo Yi, Tai Xiao and Lu Zhen.

The Huang clan can be divided into three yan sects, of which the ancestor of the Ziyun Yan sect is Huang Shougong, the ancestor of the Jindun Yan sect is Huang Fu, and the ancestor of the Yanshan Yan sect is Huang Zhongyong.

Among them, the ancestor of the Huang clan in Fuyang is Lu Jian (Huang Gongwang), the ancestor of the Huang clan in Guobei is Wu Shuangrui, the ancestor of the Huang clan in Yiwu is Huang Shu, the ancestor of the Huang clan in Tongcheng is Huang Quansan, and the ancestor of the Huang clan in Tangxi is Huang Xiao'er.
