When Zhuge Liang learned that an "old man" had come from Sima Yi's army, he looked up at the sky and sighed: My life is over

King Xuan, who confronted Liang, set up a temptation to seduce all sides, and King Xuan was furious and would respond with a heavy army. Liang dispatched the spy to Look at Him, and also said: "There is an old man who resolutely fights against Huang Yu, and when the army is standing, the army is not allowed to come out." Liang Yue: This will be The Death of George, my life is over. (Southern Dynasty Song Liu Yiqing, "The New Language of the World, Fangzheng")

When Zhuge Liang learned that an "old man" had come from Sima Yi's army, he looked up at the sky and sighed: My life is over

The above is the relevant record of Zhuge Liang's fifth expedition to Wei in Liu Yiqing's "New Language of the World" of the Southern Song Dynasty. In Zhuge Liang's lifetime, there were five Northern Expeditions, of which the first and fifth were huge. In particular, on the fifth occasion, Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi, the governor of the Wei army, confronted Wuzhangyuan. Zhuge Liang marched in from Hanzhong, came from afar, and the grain and grass were not good, so it was necessary to make a quick decision. After sima yi's many defeats, he did not go to war, and it was clear that he wanted to consume Zhuge Liang to death.

In order to induce Sima Yi to go to war, Zhuge Liang thought of various methods. For example, Zhuge Liang sent part of his army as bait to lure Sima Yi into battle, but after Sima Yi was deceived once or twice, he learned to be smart and was no longer deceived. Zhuge Liang asked the soldiers to scold the enemy every day, and Sima Yi's generals listened too much and could not stand it, and asked Sima Yi for battle, but Sima Yi was as stable as Mount Tai, just like no one else.

Zhuge Liang could only use the ultimate killing move, and he sent emissaries to sima yi with turbans, hair ornaments, and clothes used by women, hoping to provoke Sima Yi. This trick was really effective, and Sima Yi was immediately "ashamed and angry" and immediately went to the emperor Cao Rui, who was far away in the capital, and asked for a battle. However, the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui sent the wei lieutenant Xin Bi (辛比) to hold Fu Jie as a military division to stop Sima Yi's reckless actions.

At this moment, a ball of war intention that had ignited in the chests of Cao Wei's generals was extinguished, and there was no reason to force the main general Sima Yi to fight. Sima Yi also had a holy will, and he also had a reason not to go to war, and his subordinate soldiers also had an explanation, not that I was afraid of Shu like a tiger, but that the emperor would not let me fight.

Many days after Zhuge Liang gave Sima Yi the clothes to wear by the emissaries, he was very confused when he saw that Sima Yi still had no intention of going to war. He felt that his ultimate move was very powerful, and he thought that no general in the world could bear to be ridiculed as a woman, was Sima Yi an exception?

He sent a secret agent, and after many inquiries, he learned that there was an old man in the Wei army. This old man, armed with a yellow cannon, stood firmly at the gate of the Wei army camp, and the army inside could not come out. After Zhuge Liang listened, he concluded that this person must be Xin Bi. He then looked up at the sky and sighed: The heavens are going to kill me, and my life will soon be over.

Who is Sinpi? He was with his brother Xin Ping, who was originally Yuan Shao's adviser and assisted Yuan Tan after Yuan Shao's death. Later, Yuan Tan sent Xin Bi as an emissary to cao cao, but was intercepted by cao cao and submitted to cao cao. In the seventh year of the Huang Dynasty (226), Emperor Wen of Wei died of illness, and the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Pi succeeded to the throne, and Xin Bijin was made the Marquis of Yingxiang. Xin Pisu was known for his integrity and strict law enforcement, and was always respected by Cao Weiqunchen. His son Xin Chang advised him to establish good relations with Liu Fang and Sun Zi so as not to be framed, and as a result, he was severely reprimanded by Xin Bi.

In the second year of Qinglong (234), Zhuge Liang attacked Wei for the fifth time, and the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui sent the general Sima Yi to lead an army to resist. Sima Yi fought a war of attrition with Zhuge Liang, not seeking merit but no fault, and wanted to wait for the Shu army to run out of food and grass before striking a blow. Later, Zhuge Liang sent emissaries to give Sima Yi women clothes to wear, and Wei generals could not bear it any longer and asked for war. Sima Yi could not be the master in the face of the generals' request for battle, so he wrote this problem to Emperor Wei Ming and pushed it to Emperor Cao Rui.

The Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui knew in his heart that Sima Yi's intentions were to use his edict to suppress the generals' request for battle. He then sent Sinpi as an emissary to the front line to convey his order not to go to war. Xin Bi represented the emperor Cao Rui, who held the festival on the front line, just as Cao Rui himself came, and Wei would not dare to disobey. Sima Yi also pretended to ask Xin Bi to send troops, but Xin Bi sternly refused.

Shu Han Jiang Wei said to Zhuge Liang: "Xin Bi cane festival has arrived, and the thief will not come back." Zhuge Liang pointed out that sima Yi was trying to block the mouths of the generals, and only then did he ask the Wei Ming emperor Cao Pi for war.

When Zhuge Liang learned that Xin Bi, who had always been just and righteous, had come to the front line, personally supervised the battle, and forbade him to go to war without permission, he lamented that Sima Yi would not fight again. His plan to lure Sima Yi into battle was completely ruined.

Zhuge Liang sent emissaries to send women's clothes to Sima Yi, not only did not provoke Sima Yi to go to war, but was also learned by Sima Yi that Zhuge Liang: "Zhuge Kong Ming eats less and troubles, and his ability is long!" Unsurprisingly, zhuge liang, after more than three months of confrontation with Sima Yi in Wuzhangyuan, became ill and died in the army. The Shu army then withdrew, Sima Yi "won a great victory", and BanShi returned to the dynasty. Xin Bi, an old man who "supervised the battle" at the front, made outstanding meritorious achievements, was appointed to the post of guard lieutenant, and soon died of illness, with the post of Marquis of Su.

Xin Bi followed Yuan Shao to fight dong Zhuo in his early years, probably in 190 AD, and now in 234 AD, more than 40 years have passed, so Xin Bi is at least 60 years old and must be an "old man". This "old man" came to Sima Yi's army and restrained the generals on behalf of the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui, and Sima Yi would not go to war. Zhuge Liang therefore looked up at the sky and sighed: "My life is over."
