How speed skating differs from short track speed skating

The prototype of speed skating first appeared in the Netherlands, and then gradually developed into the sport of racing. In 1924, at the first Winter Olympics, men's speed skating was an official sport. At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Valley, women's speed skating was listed as an official sport.

Both speed skating and short track speed skating are ice sports, and the two events are different in terms of venue, athlete equipment, etc.

The venues are different: the maximum circumference of the standard runway of the speed skating venue is 400 meters, the minimum is 333.33 meters, and the circumference of the inner edge of the short track speed skating competition venue is 111.12 meters. In the short track speed skating competition, the athletes do not divide the lanes after departure; the speed skating competition is divided into the inner and outer lanes, with a radius of 25 meters in the inner lane and 30 meters in the inner circle of the outer lane.

The ice knife is different: the ice knife used for speed skating is long, only the front point is fixed and connected with the skate, and the back point is not fixed with the shoe; the ice knife knife used in short track speed skating is short and fixed to the sole by two points.

Speed skating competitions include individual events, team chase events, and group start events.

Individual projects, a group of two, one person inside and one person in the outer road. Due to the difference in the length of the inner and outer tracks, athletes need to change lanes in the lane change area after each lap, and when changing lanes, the outside lane athletes are given priority to change to the inner lane to ensure that the total distance of the two people is the same, and the ranking is determined by the final glide time.

The group chase event adopts a group elimination system, two teams and a group duel, each team has 3 athletes, both sides start from the opposite slide at the same time, the third athlete passes the finish line and the race ends, and the team with the shorter time wins.

In the group start event, multiple athletes set off at the same time and stand in several rows at the starting point. The game is divided into inside and outside. The whole 16 laps, every 4 laps for a point point, the first three points to break through the first three players to get 5 points, 3 points, 1 point, the sixteenth lap of the first three to cross the line scored 60 points, 40 points, 20 points respectively, the higher points win.

The Beijing Winter Olympics speed skating competition was held at the National Speed Skating Hall "Ice Ribbon", starting on February 5 and ending on February 19, with a total of 14 sub-events.
