In 2020, Tesla said it would establish a design center in China to design "electric vehicles for the international market." In the second half of 2020, Tesla began recruiting talent, encouraging anyone with a passion for cars or design to apply for a position. The position of Design Director requires more than 20 years of relevant working experience in an international car factory and a familiar understanding of the Chinese market.
Tesla only had a design team in the United States before, and the opening of the China Design Center further proves the importance of the Chinese market to Tesla, and the future Tesla model design may be more considerive of the needs of Chinese consumers.
Tesla is tight-lipped about the design center and what the design center will do. While Tesla has discussed plans for a $25,000 small electric car and a mass-market car derived from "Chinese creativity," there is still no definitive word on exactly how Tesla will operate the design center. However, Tesla, as CEO Musk said at the fourth quarter of 2021 earnings meeting, Tesla will not launch new electric vehicle products this year.
In addition to the "design center" in Beijing, Tesla also has an R&D innovation center and a Shanghai Gigafactory data center in Shanghai.

The Shanghai R&D Innovation Center is Tesla's first overseas R&D center based on vehicle development, including software, hardware, electronics, materials, power and energy engineering teams. In the future, Tesla Shanghai R&D and Innovation Center will carry out more original development work around vehicles, charging equipment and energy products, and develop into a comprehensive R&D center of the same scale as the US R&D center.
In accordance with the relevant requirements of the "Guidelines for the Construction of Shanghai Data Centers (2021 Edition)", Tesla has completed the relevant approval and filing requirements for the data center, and built the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory data center to store Chinese operation data such as factory production. ”

In the past few years, China has become one of Tesla's important growth points. The Shanghai plant will achieve nearly 52% of Tesla's deliveries in 2021 and has begun to expand.
