Hymn to Life - Hu Weiguo's recent creation

Fight against the epidemic on a daily basis

Chinese contemporary printmaking has shown a spectacular development trend in recent years, and the printmakings of Hu Weiguo, a young artist located in the Great Northwest, are particularly eye-catching, and the frequent appearance of excellent works is thought-provoking. He graduated from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in the early new century to pursue a master's degree in Central China Normal University, and after graduation, he has been staying in gansu University of Political Science and Law to engage in front-line teaching work. Is it the result of succession, or is it an act of innovation? New creations raise new problems, and new historical stages are bound to have new cultural connotations, and his recent black-and-white woodcut works are the most practical interpretations of this problem and connotation.

View under the bridge

The German philosopher Humboldt, "On the Differences in the Structure of Human Language and Its Influence on the Development of human Spirit", pointed out the view that "language is by no means a product, but a creative activity". For artistic language, whether it is creative or not is the dividing line between reproduction and expression, and everyone can use language equally, but because of the different purposes, the quality of language is determined. In the woodcut formal language of printmaking, the knife method and figurative language are not only the strengths of printmaking, but also under the objective attributes of material and tools and other physical factors, the language of woodblocks is more suitable for generalization and loose expression.

Late to snow

Hu Weiguo's woodcut prints, with their highly realistic and figurative language characteristics, seem to be neorealist painting characteristics, but they contain a deep and current human concern. Hu Weiguo took a different approach in the dialectic of short and long black and white language, he was full of interest in in-depth exploration and performance of the "Anti-Epidemic" series of woodcut prints, with excellence, meticulous knife scale to express the situation and situation of people in contemporary real life, and strive to open up the self-expression and unique personality of this "thematic" printmaking, while highlighting the mission and responsibility of an artist.

The clouds of the homeland

In addition to the creation of prints, Hu Weiguo's oil paintings are also remarkable. In the fleeting light and color, in the alternation of morning and dusk, whether it is mountains and rivers, idyllic scenery or alleys, it can present a "meaningful form" and evocative under his refined and generalized pen. Obviously, in terms of artistic creation, Hu Weiguo's simple character did not limit the play of his talents.
