The male Apogon concentrates on incubating its eggs with its mouth, which is typical of the behavior of the snapper. Male snappers carefully care for these eggs during an incubation period of about a week. During this time it stops eating and opens its mouth from time to time to allow the eggs in its mouth to breathe.
