The four athletes of the Chinese canoe team, Xie Yuancong, Li Lu, Huang Juan and Quan Xin, successfully passed the preliminary rounds of their respective events and advanced to the semifinals.

Kayak slalom, also known as whitewater slalom , was born in Switzerland in 1933 as a summer alternative to slalom. Originally, kayak slalom was performed on a still water channel. In 1972, the project debuted on the artificial track of the Olympic Games, but it was not until 20 years later that it returned to the Olympic stage.

Because it is a race on a whitewater track, kayak slalom is more visible than other water events, and while advancing in the "rapids", the athletes will pass through the water gate in turn, and the rapids will continue to roll and reset until finally passing the finish line.

Fuyang Water Sports Center canoe slalom course has a total length of 281 meters, a starting pool length of 50 meters, and a buffer zone length of 45 meters. On the track, two poles form a "water gate", and the green and white pole is composed of a "shunshui gate", and athletes can cross the water gate. The red and white poles are made up of the "reverse water gate", also called the "swing gate", and the athlete has to circle the pole before passing.

The stadium's track has 16 to 25 water gates, of which no less than 6 are reverse gates, and the canton route is set by the referee before the official race. During the competition, athletes will be overtime when they touch the goalbar and goalline, so how to break through this track quickly, accurately and steadily is the difficulty and viewing point of this sport.

In the mixed mining area after the preliminary round, Chao News reporters interviewed Quan Xin, who participated in the men's single kayak event, and Li Lu, who participated in the women's single kayak event.

Quan Xin, born in 1996, is a rising star in canoe slalom, and in 2010, he switched from swimming to canoe slalom. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Quan Xin won the men's single kayak championship, which is also the second time that the Chinese team has won the event championship after the Guangzhou Asian Games.

In the preliminary round, Quan Xin completed the challenge of the 281-meter slalom course with a time of 85.80, but due to a 2-second extra time, he finished second in the preliminary round behind Japan's Yumi Tanaka by 0.25 seconds.

"Maybe I haven't played for a while, so today it feels a little tight." Quan Xin said he hopes to get his form back in the semifinals and finals.
