On November 15, 2022, the General Office of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued a notice on the "Catalogue of Prohibited and Restricted Use of Technologies for Housing and Municipal Engineering (2022 Edition) (Draft for Comments)" for public comment, and it is recommended to use ductile iron pipes, HDPE pipes, UPVC pipes, etc. for drainage pipes.
Now the common indoor drainage pipes are analyzed and compared for the reference of owners and designers.

UPVC drain pipe
UPVC drainage pipe, also known as hard PVC pipe, is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin as the main raw material, adding an appropriate amount of stabilizer, lubricant, filler, color enhancer, etc., and extruded by an extruder at one time.
Merit:
1) Corrosion resistance, low fluid resistance;
2) Light weight, easy installation, can speed up the progress of the project;
3) The inner wall is smooth, not easy to block, and the inspection operation is convenient;
4) Economic saving, low cost and low maintenance cost.
Shortcoming:
1) It is easy to age, the impact force is weak, and the pressure bearing capacity is less than 0.4MPa;
2) Poor flame retardancy and poor heat resistance;
3) The drainage noise is large, because the inner wall of the UPVC pipe is relatively smooth, the water flow is not easy to form a water film along the pipe wall, and it hits the pipe wall in a chaotic state in the pipeline.
Applications:
Drainage of ordinary residential buildings and public buildings:
If the quality requirements are not high, UPVC pipes can be selected as the pipes of the drainage system, which can not only ensure the smoothness and hygiene requirements of drainage in various functional areas, but also greatly reduce the maintenance cost and use cost.
Public buildings such as offices, schools, factories, hospitals, shopping malls, etc., the drainage system of these buildings must also take into account its comprehensiveness and practicability, so UPVC drainage pipes can be selected as the pipes of the drainage system to ensure its smooth drainage and hygiene, and facilitate the monitoring and maintenance of the pipeline system.

The double-walled hollow spiral silencing pipe is made of polyvinyl chloride resin as the main raw material, adding necessary additives, and kneading and extrusion.
Compared to ordinary UPVC drain pipes:
1) The noise reduction effect is better, which can be reduced by 8-10 dB compared with the solid-wall UPVC pipe;
2) Due to the spiral design of the pipeline, the collision between the water flow and the irregular movement of air and the pipe wall can be reduced, the water flow is smoother, the pressure fluctuation in the riser is relatively stable, and the drainage capacity is increased by about 25%~35%;
3) Good stability, because there is a smooth air column in the pipe, the pressure fluctuation of the pressure in the pipe is reduced, and the safety factor of the pipeline is improved;
4) The cost is a little higher than that of ordinary UPVC pipes.
Applications:
Villas, high-end residences, bathroom drainage risers close to bedrooms, due to the noise of ordinary UPVC drainage pipes, affecting the quality of living, need to consider the use of silencing pipes, the commonly used in the project is UPVC double-wall hollow spiral silencing pipe.

HDPE drain pipe
HDPE pipe is full name of high-density polyethylene pipe
Compared to ordinary UPVC drain pipes:
1) High strength and long service life;
2) Impact resistance;
3) Corrosion resistance;
4) the cost is relatively high;
Applications:
High-rise, super high-rise rainwater pipes, siphon rainwater pipes

Ductile iron pipes
Ductile iron pipe refers to the introduction of a certain amount of trace elements such as titanium or yttrium into the molten iron during the casting process, and the graphite in the cast iron is distributed in a spherical crystalline form through the action of nodularizing agent.
Compared to ordinary UPVC drain pipes:
1) Good mechanical properties, high toughness and strength, and can withstand large water pressure and external impact during use;
2) The inside of the ductile iron pipe is coated with special anticorrosive paint, which has excellent corrosion resistance;
3) The weight of the material is large, and mechanical assistance is usually required during installation;
4) The cost is relatively high, and the installation requires high technical requirements and precise operation;
Applications:
In high-rise buildings with a building height of more than 100 meters, there is an area that needs to be earthquake-resistant and needs to be anti-settlement.
