With the massive increase in the number of people entering the U.S. illegally, Chinese immigrants are using Mexican ID cards to enter the U.S.
A video taken from the San Diego border sheds light on this trend. So far this year, the number of Chinese entering the country from Mexico has more than doubled the total for all of last year.
It is believed that the Mexican identity cards used by Chinese immigrants are manufactured and sold by smuggling syndicates. Immigrants from Asia and elsewhere to the U.S. can use these IDs to safely pass through Mexican police inspections when passing through Mexico.
Chinese immigrants destroy or discard these IDs when crossing the U.S. border after they have used them, making it more difficult for U.S. immigration authorities to identify them and provide them with asylum.
Bill Wells, the mayor of El Cajon, about 17 miles east of San Diego, Calif., found dozens of Mexican ID cards discarded by Chinese immigrants at the border crossing between Jamba Hot Springs and Campo, a video shared by the Daily Mail.
These cards mark "temporary residents", "tourists" or "humanitarian workers" in Central American countries. Wells is perplexed by these ID cards, which are issued by the Mexican government.
He told the Daily Mail that the IDs may have been used by Chinese immigrants.
The mayor added that he was shocked by the "sheer number" of discarded identity documents he saw when he visited the border last Friday (May 3) night.
"My worst fears were confirmed," he said. "I've talked to the Border Patrol agents and they're all ready to quit. They say it's completely out of control.
"They think a lot of people don't know how big the problem is.
"The American people really need to wake up to the extent of this problem. ”
Wells also picked up a Chinese merchant ship passport, which had been shredded by its owner and discarded at the border.
"It could be because they want to apply for asylum, and if you have a passport, you'll be traced back to it......," he explained [So, the asylum person] doesn't want to be tracked. ”
"He (the Chinese immigrant) wants to prove that there is nothing in the United States and apply for asylum. ”
Other IDs were scattered in the backyard of Cory Gautereaux, the owner of a local gun shop, which he collected.
Some of the migrants who discarded these documents were from South and Central America and the Middle East, but most were from China.
In the first half of this fiscal year, the number of Chinese nationals crossing the border through San Diego, California, more than doubled as in all of 2023.
Most people fly to Tijuana first and then pay up to $35,000 to the smuggling syndicate to be brought into the United States.
Makeshift ropes made of old cloth are also hanging from some border walls to help migrants cross the border, people familiar with the matter said.
Border guards said a particular area was targeted because there were no cameras there.
Once an undocumented migrant crosses the border into the United States, they are picked up by an immigration bus and taken to a processing center.
From there, they will be sent to a transit center near San Isidro, where they will be released.
Last month, San Diego became the region with the highest number of migrant arrivals at the southern border for the first time since 1999.
According to data posted on Twitter by U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, the number of immigrants arrested in San Diego reached 8,989 in the week ending April 16. Meanwhile, the region with the highest number of people crossing the border has previously been Tucson, Arizona, with 7,500 arrests in the week ending April 19.
Recent data shows that the migration crisis is shifting westward to border states like Arizona and California, under Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's tight defense of Texas.
Mexican authorities have also tightened security measures on the Texas side of the border.
The number of migrants arriving in San Diego has outstripped the resources available for local support, with officials reporting that as many as 1,000 people are being released every day at San Diego's train and bus stations.
Last month, more than a dozen migrants poured into a beach in Carlsbad, a small town about 30 miles north of San Diego.
When the ship was speeding towards the beach at great speed, it was only a few feet away from the surfers in the ocean at that time.
After the boat ran aground on the beach, the migrants disembarked and rushed to a row of waterfront houses to be picked up by a black SUV waiting there. When the car started in a hurry, a woman almost fell and then climbed into the back seat of the car.
The Daily Mail has previously revealed that a head of the U.S. Border Patrol has warned that now patrol law enforcement officers are overwhelmed by Chinese immigrants who have illegally crossed the border.
Anthony Good, the Border Patrol's chief patrol agent for the El Paso District, told the Homeland Security Commission at a hearing last September that law enforcement officers were "doing their best to find out why [people from other continents] were coming," but their "information could be hidden."
