In the smoke of war, an iron-blooded general named Zhang Wannian stepped forward and defended the dignity of the motherland with practical actions. Back in the 70s of the 20th century, Vietnam, a once friendly country, suddenly turned its face against us and became a complete "white-eyed wolf". As a neighbor of the new China, Vietnam received tens of billions of yuan in economic aid from us at the beginning of its reconstruction. Who would have thought that they would be paid but devoured! Not only did they launch anti-China incidents in the country and expel the Chinese in Vietnam, but they also massacred Chinese fishermen in the border areas and froze the assets of the Chinese in Vietnam.
What is even more odious is that the Vietnamese army has deliberately infiltrated Laos, Cambodia and other neighboring countries in an attempt to unify the rivers and lakes in Southeast Asia. And behind it is another big neighbor of ours - the Soviet Union, who has ulterior motives behind it. At that time, Sino-Soviet relations had fallen to a freezing point, and the Soviet Union played a small game to contain China's development and connived at Vietnam's wanton behavior in Southeast Asia.
We will never sit idly by in the face of the unreasonable behavior of our neighbors. On February 17, 1979, the CPC Central Committee ordered the launch of a self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, demonstrating the firm will of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty. After receiving the battle order, an old general named Zhang Wannian stepped forward and went to the front line in person. In fact, General Zhang Wannian can be said to be "related to the Vietnamese army". In the Vietnam War a few years ago, New China sent him as a military adviser to Vietnam to resist US aggression and aid Vietnam. At that time, Zhang Wannian learned a lot of strategic and tactical experience from the combat environment of the Vietnamese army. And this time, he wants to use these old skills to "give back" to the Vietnamese army.
Sure enough, with years of hard work experience, General Zhang Wannian showed outstanding vision and command ability in the war against Vietnam. He made five consecutive battle plans to defeat the opponent. Among them, the most memorable thing for the Vietnamese army is the battle of the Qiqiao River. At that time, our army was in a dilemma of whether to advance or retreat. As the commander-in-chief of the 43rd Army, Zhang Wannian made a decisive decision and directly ordered a surprise attack to cross the river. This surprise attack completely disrupted the rhythm of the Vietnamese army. In the end, the Vietnamese army suffered heavy casualties in the battle of the Qi Poor River, and the defeat and retreat were chaotic.
However, after our army received the order to evacuate, the Vietnamese army who fled in the desert did not seem to give up. They quietly dispatched the so-called "trump card division" - the 338th Division, waiting for an opportunity to carry out a sneak attack on the withdrawal route of our troops. However, Zhang Wannian was scheming and had already seen through this trick. He immediately asked the 127th Division to seize the commanding heights of 390 in advance, and personally deployed heavy troops there. Sure enough, early the next morning, the Vietnamese army swarmed in, and General Zhang Wannian immediately pulled out his gun three times, and gave an order: "Kill him and return to the horse gun!" Subsequently, the 127th Division opened heavy fire on the Vietnamese troops who were surging like a tidal wave. This "ace division" was suddenly hit squarely, and the head of the rat scattered in all directions, and even the shadow of the ace could not be seen.
In this way, under the powerful counterattack of our army, almost all the main forces of the Vietnamese army were wiped out. In the end, they had no choice but to evacuate in disarray, and they no longer dared to provoke us. And General Zhang Wannian is also famous for this battle, and is praised as "an iron-blooded general who defends the country".
Looking back on this period of the past, we can't help but be impressed by General Zhang Wannian's fearless and heroic fighting spirit. As a generation of soldiers, he was not afraid of strong enemies and vowed not to look back until he reached his goal. This is exactly the heroic spirit of "the brave wins when they meet on a narrow road" that soldiers in the new era should have. And his firm determination to defend national sovereignty has further demonstrated the firm will of the Chinese people to safeguard national unity. Even though time has passed, General Zhang Wannian's heroic deeds still shine brightly, showing the glory and pride of the soldiers. More importantly, he revealed a cruel truth to us: Even a weak and small country should not be taken lightly once it has anti-China tendencies. We still need to be vigilant and insist on the sanctity of sovereign territory. Only in this way can our country remain safe and move towards greater prosperity.
