A report on June 20 revealed a shocking incident: some criminals tried to illegally bring into the country not only mobile phones, CPUs, memory and game cartridges, but even more outrageously, they tried to smuggle endangered animal species into the country.
According to CCTV News, a man was recently found hiding a total of 454 turtles of four species, including tiger striped musk turtles, when he entered the country from Macau. These tortoises are listed as endangered species of wild flora and fauna and are protected by the Convention on International Trade (CITIC).
According to reports, a man was found looking flustered and having an unsteady gait as he passed through the Gongbei Port Customs. After inspection, customs officers found four net pockets in his backpack and trouser pockets, which were stuffed with live baby turtles. In addition, there are even two net pockets tucked into his pants pockets, which are also filled with turtles.
During the inventory, 454 turtles were confirmed. After identification by the specialized department, the turtles were classified into different species, including 157 tiger-striped musk turtles, 103 knife-backed musk turtles, 97 giant musk turtles, and 97 oriental motoids. The tortoises are listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
Research data suggest that musk turtles belong to the family Kinethoracic Turtles and are relatively small turtles, usually between 8-14 cm in length.
Breasted turtles are a group of animals that inhabit a light cement environment, and some species are good at climbing and eat mainly meat. Thoracic turtles are mainly found in the Americas, and their main characteristics include their small size, large head, and conical snout.
