【January-May 2024 Small Car Sales Ranking】Although many traditional fuel small vehicles have stopped production and withdrawn from the market, newly launched new energy vehicles have quickly filled the market gap left by them, and sales have risen instead of falling. According to the data of the Comprehensive Passenger Car Association, the cumulative retail sales of the domestic small car market from January to May 2024 were 299,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%, and the sales volume increased by 11,000 units.
However, this year, the small car market is completely dominated by new energy vehicles, with a total sales of 277,000 new energy small cars on sale, and a penetration rate of 92.7% in the small car market, while the cumulative sales of fuel small cars from January to May were only 22,000 units.
As the champion of this year's car sales, the BYD Seagull is undoubtedly the champion of small car sales, with a cumulative retail sales of 132,660 units from January to May, accounting for almost half of the new energy small car market. In March this year, the Seagull Glory Edition was launched, and the starting price of the new car was reduced by 4,000 yuan, with a guide price of 69,800-85,800 yuan, providing two cruising range models of 305km and 405km for selection.
Although BYD Dolphin ranked second, its sales volume could be described as "plummeting" compared with the same period last year. From January to May this year, the cumulative retail sales of Dolphin were 59,098 vehicles, a sharp drop of 53.5% compared with 126993 vehicles in the same period last year. The listing of the cheaper Seagull undoubtedly further carved up the market share of Dolphin and became one of the biggest "losers" of BYD's price cut. The Dolphin Glory Edition was launched on February 23, adding a model with a range of 302km, with a guide price of 99,800-129,800 yuan, a starting price of 17,000 yuan lower than the old model, and providing 302km, 401km and 420km (CLTC working conditions) cruising range models for consumers to choose from.
Wuling Binguo's sales closely followed the dolphin, with a cumulative sales of 56,771 units from January to May, ranking third. Wuling Binguo offers 203km, 333km and 410km range models to choose from, with a guide price of 56,800-88,800 yuan, and the price threshold is lower than that of the BYD Seagull.
Ora Good Cat, which is mainly aimed at female consumers, has sold a total of 17,390 units from January to May this year, ranking fourth. At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the 2024 Ora Good Cat and Ora Good Cat GT were officially launched, and the new cars were mainly upgraded in configuration, appearance and safety, with a guide price of 105,800.
The Nano 01, which was launched in November last year, has a large sales gap compared with the above models, with a cumulative sales of 8,787 units from January to May this year, ranking sixth. Nano 01 currently provides a subsidy of up to 15,000 yuan, of which the replacement subsidy is up to 8,000 yuan (including government subsidies), and the cash subsidy is up to 7,000 yuan, which is still cost-effective.
The sales of JAC Yttrium 3 and Changan Benben E-Star are not large, with cumulative sales from January to May only 2,463 and 2,368 respectively, ranking eighth and ninth.
Among the fuel small cars, the Honda Fit, known as the "evergreen" of the auto market, has a cumulative sales of only 9,140 units, ranking fifth, down 66.4% year-on-year; Volkswagen Polo's cumulative sales were 8,414 units, ranking seventh, down 45.5% year-on-year.
From January to May this year, the retail sales in the domestic market were only 526 units, but the overseas export sales were as high as 19,378 units, ranking 12th in the export sales list of sedans this year.
