London 2012 mascot

Wenlock is the mascot of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

The mascot is based on the passionate Saropp sheep. The idea for the lamp on his head came from London's famous black cab. The forehead is shaped like the dome of the Olympic Stadium. His eyes are the lenses of his camera, witnessing every place they have been and who they have met. He wears five bracelets in the colors of the Olympic rings on his wrists. The three pinnacles on his head represent the three award-winning athletes on the podium.

According to Michael Mopbag's mascot story, the metal shape of the Venlock was made from the last drops of steel used to build the Olympic Stadium in London.

Design Concept:

Wenlock is from the village of Schropshire in Much Wenlock. There, the Venlock Olympiad was held, an ancient event that inspired the modern Olympic Father, Jean-Claubertin to create the modern Olympic Games: in the 19th century, Coubertin was invited to watch the Venlock games, which inspired him to create the modern Olympic Movement. To this day, the Venlock game is still being held. Therefore, in honor of the Venlock Olympiad, the London Olympics decided to name the mascot "Venlock".

Venlock was created for children, and some children and parents were involved in the design process, connecting children and sports and telling stories about the Olympics that people would be proud of. Venlock will help children grow healthy and strong.

Venlock is named after the 1850 Wenlok Olympia Games, the prototype of the modern Olympic Games.

Determine the journey:

London's streets, parks and underpasses are home to 84 sculptures of Olympic mascot Wenlock and Paralympic mascot Mandeville, each 2 metres tall and weighing a tonne. The spacing between the sculptures is 30 meters. They help guide spectators and visitors during the Olympics. Twenty-two designers are responsible for decorating the sculptures so that they blend in with their surroundings.

In 2008, a mascot contest was held, in which more than 100 designers, artists and design agencies submitted their proposals. Venlock and Mandeville's designs eventually stood out from the humanoid dove, the animated teacup, and the long Big Ben.
