Hello everyone, I'm Ting's mother.
The results of the college entrance examination are out, some people are happy and some are worried.
It is undeniable that as parents, we all hope that our children will be top students and get a good university and a good job in the future.
In the process of children's growth, the development of the brain has always been the topic of our greatest concern.
Scientific research has shown that the human brain has several critical stages of development throughout life, and these stages are often thought of as opportunities to "get smarter".
If we can give children appropriate stimulation and guidance during these critical periods, it can greatly promote children's cognitive and intellectual development.
Here are three key stages of a child's brain development that will be better if you take advantage of these opportunities.
First chance: 0-3 years old, the rapid growth of the brain
A newborn's brain weighs about 25% of an adult's brain, but in the first few years of life, the brain weight increases rapidly to 85% of an adult's brain weight.
During this period, brain neurons make connections at a rate of millions per second, forming complex networks. These connections lay the foundation for a child's learning, memory, and cognitive abilities later on.
Parents can do the following:
1. Early parent-child interaction
Frequent eye contact, touch and verbal communication with children can enhance parent-child relationships and promote the connection of children's brain nerves.
2. Enrich environmental stimulation
Provide children with a colorful environment, such as toys in a variety of colors, shapes and materials, to stimulate children's sensory experience.
3. Locale
Talking to your child, even if they can't answer yet, can help develop language skills.
Xiao Ai's parents have been reading to her since she was born and playing various interactive games with her. At the age of two, Ai was able to speak simple sentences, which is faster than the development of language skills of children of the same age.
Second chances: 3-6 years old, language and social skills development
At this stage, children begin to explore the outside world more actively, and their language and social skills develop rapidly.
Children begin to learn how to express themselves, understand others, and build relationships with others.
Parents can do the following:
1. Encourage social interaction
Send your child to kindergarten so that they can learn to cooperate, share and resolve conflicts in a group.
2. Reading and storytelling
Through reading and storytelling, children can increase their vocabulary and improve their language comprehension skills.
3. Role-playing games
Through role-playing games, children learn social skills and emotional expression through imitation.
When he was four years old, his parents began taking him to parent-child activities in the community, where he learned to get along with children of different ages, and his language and social skills improved significantly.
Third chance: 6-12 years old, cognitive ability and logical thinking development
At this stage, the child's brain development enters a new level, and it begins to have more complex cognitive abilities and logical thinking.
This is a critical time to learn about subjects such as math, science, and reading comprehension.
Parents can do the following:
1. Learn new skills
Encourage your child to learn new skills, such as music, drawing or sports, activities that encourage different areas of the brain to work together.
2. Problem-solving games
Through puzzles, board games, etc., children's logical thinking and problem-solving skills are exercised.
3. Scientific Inquiry
Through experiments and inquiry, children are trained to think scientifically and be curious.
Xiaohua's parents bought her a set of science experiment toys when she was eight years old, and Xiaohua learned a lot of scientific knowledge through experiments, and her logical thinking ability was also improved.
Summary:
Children's brain development is a long-term and complex process, and the above three stages are critical periods of brain development and opportunities for parents to grasp.
By providing an enriching environment, encouraging social interaction, and cultivating habits of learning and thinking, we can help children maximize their potential during these critical periods.
