1905 Film Network News reported on June 27 that the third film in the "Downton Abbey" series, which has moved from the small screen to the big screen, will return next fall. The film is currently being produced in the UK, once again by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, with Simon Curtis returning to direct.
Highclere Castle regulars, Hugh Bonneville, Dominic West, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Creel, Joan Flogat, Alan Richie, Penelope Wilton, Leslie Nichol, Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brandon Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Harden-Payton, Sophie McHilla, Douglas Rhys will all return. The third installment also has many new faces joining Paul Giamatti, Julie Richardson, Alejandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, Aarti Frushan and many others.
Regarding the plot, the official did not reveal more information, but in "Downton Abbey: A New Era", with the tragic death of the Countess of Grantham (Maggie Smith) in the late 20s of the 20th century, her granddaughter Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) will take over and manage the operation of Downton Abbey.
The first Downton Abbey, released in 2019, was Focus Pictures' highest-grossing film of all time, grossing over $194 million worldwide. Through two films, the "Downton Abbey" film series has grossed $287 million.
The movie "Downton Abbey 3" will be released in the UK on September 12, 2025.
