As the only direct highway connection between the two major urban agglomerations of Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou and Zhuzhongjiang, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor is the "key horizontal" of the A-shaped transportation network framework of the Pearl River Estuary.
After the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, the driving time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be shortened from two hours to half an hour, and it will only take 15 minutes from Nansha to Zhongshan in Guangzhou, and from more than 2 hours to one hour from Zhuhai and Jiangmen to Shenzhen, creating a new pattern of transportation development in the Bay Area.
After the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel, the toll models will implement the "Classification of Toll Road Vehicle Toll Models", and the toll standard for all vehicles in the project is 66 yuan/standard train, as follows↓
The long-term congestion of the Humen Bridge will be greatly improved
Over the years, the Humen Bridge has been overloaded, with an average daily saturated standard traffic flow of 80,000 vehicles, and the annual report of Yuexiu Communications Construction shows that in 2023, the average daily toll income of the Humen Bridge will be 2.8255 million yuan, and the average daily toll traffic will be 103,600 vehicles. Based on this calculation, in 2023, a total of 37.814 million vehicles will pay to cross the Humen Bridge, with a cumulative toll of 1.031 billion yuan.
According to statistics, the Humen Bridge has a maximum daily traffic flow of nearly 200,000 vehicles, making it one of the busiest highway bridges in the country. Even though the Nansha Bridge opened in April 2019, diverting some of the traffic, the traffic on the Humen Bridge is still heavy. On holidays, the Humen Bridge on the navigation is often a red line.

The most intuitive change brought about by the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor is to greatly shorten the time and space distance between Shenzhen and Zhongshan. But for Dongguan people, this undoubtedly eases the traffic pressure of the Humen Bridge.
According to China Communications News, the Humen Bridge and the Nansha Bridge, which are the best routes connecting the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary, will further release their traffic pressure after the completion of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor. The history of people in western Guangdong who must pass through the Humen Bridge or Nansha Bridge to Shenzhen will be completely changed, and the long-term congestion of the Humen Bridge will also be greatly improved.
