After a series of hype, Volkswagen is finally willing to drop the masquerading sticker of the MK8.5 generation Golf R and welcome the most powerful Golf R model car ever.
First of all, the Golf R is still powered by the brand's main brand 2.0-litre straight-four turbocharged engine, mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic manual transmission, which produces 333 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Of course, in order to distinguish it from the Golf GTI, the Golf R is based on the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, but the engineers have equipped it with the R-Performance intelligent torque distribution system, which improves the overall handling performance.
It is worth mentioning that the R-Performance option is also available, which increases the top speed from 250 km/h to 270 km/h. In addition, if the package is available as an option, the Spoiler Package, 19-inch tyre set, G-force monitoring, GPS lap test and, most importantly, Special / Drift are also available in the same driving modes as before the facelift.
The Golf R has also followed the family in making some minor adjustments to the exterior details of the MK8.5 generation, such as the increased area of the air intakes under the bumper, the use of a glossy blackening treatment to make the overall look more imposing, and the brand has also designed new Warmenau wheels for the car. The interior is not too much of a surprise, with a lot of carbon-fibre-like fabrics added to the previous model, and the R's signature blue color can be seen everywhere.
In order to make the car more topical as soon as it was launched on the market, Volkswagen took the lead in launching the Golf R Black Edition for the European market, which is equipped with the dark factory badge and R logo, and the calipers, 19-inch Estoril wheels and exhaust tailpipes are also blackened.
At present, Volkswagen has not released the price arrangement for each market for this car, and of course there will be no market information, netizens predict that the Golf facelift series may not be seen in China until next year.
