Maochang was one of the four major industrial giants of Qingdao during the Republic of China. After a hundred years of wind and rain, the old building is still well preserved, but the once glorious "Maochang", those past events, can only be found in the memory of old Qingdao......

In 1927, Shanghai Maochang came to Qingdao to set up a factory. In 1929, Qingdao Branch of Maochang Co., Ltd. was registered. In 1930, the Shanghe Road factory was completed and put into operation, named "Qingdao Branch of Shanghai Maochang Egg Refrigeration Company".

After the Japanese invaded Qingdao for the second time, Qingdao Maochang Egg Industry was occupied by the Japanese and renamed "East Asia Egg Industry Co., Ltd." After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, it was used as an air-conditioning warehouse for the United States Navy, and it was not until the liberation of Qingdao that the name of "Qingdao Branch of Private Maochang Egg Industry Refrigeration Co., Ltd." was restored.
The above old photos are from the collection of Kyoto University in Japan and taken by North China Communications Co., Ltd., between 1936 and 1941. It reflects the precious historical materials of the egg factory at that time.
After the liberation of Qingdao, in 1966, Maochang was changed to a state-owned enterprise and renamed as "Qingdao Egg Factory of Shandong Province of National Food Company". It is still one of the backbone enterprises in the processing and export of ice eggs in China, and at the same time set up a canning workshop, and all kinds of canned varieties such as fish, meat, and fruits sell well all over the country.
"Maochang" has left unforgettable memories for countless old Qingdao, when the pipe needs to be flushed every day, the egg water will be sold in the vegetable market of the third road of the market, 3-5 cents a pound, people have lined up to buy, come back to scrambled eggs to definitely improve the food of life. In the eighties, Qingdao Egg Factory was renamed the state-owned Qingdao Canned Food Factory.
Speaking of Maochang, for the older generation, eggs, prawn heads, pig's trotters, chicken tips, soybean milk, etc., that is the memory of an era.
For the younger generation, it's all kinds of delicious canned food, ice cream that tastes great in summer, and so on. That is the most beautiful expectation of countless children in summer.
