And the old-timers?! The LEGO Star Wars 75398C-3PO is not its first major version

This week, we got our first glimpse of the LEGO Star Wars 75398 C-3PO, a LEGO Star Wars model that is expected to go on sale on August 1, 2024, with an estimated price of £119.99 / $139.99 / €139.99. The 38-centimeter-tall model is recreated in pearl gold to replicate the look of this classic concierge robot, with prints and sticker elements to complete the entire build, and the set may be in line with the existing 75379 R2-D2 proportions.

While it's likely that the 75398 C-3PO managed to capture the character's overall appearance, the fact is that this isn't the first large-scale robot model to be introduced in the LEGO Star Wars franchise.

Back in 2001, the LEGO Technic collection introduced the 8007 C-3PO, a model made up of 341 particles mixed with gold elements. The robot's appearance is more like an unfinished version of the character from the first film, with its head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers moving, albeit with a limited range of motion.

The 8007 C-3PO is 33 centimeters tall, includes the robot's distinctive silver right leg, and features an interesting feature: pressing the robot's torso will cause the model to explode and the head and arms will pop out. At the time, fans were encouraged to purchase both the 8007 C-3PO and the 8008 Stormtroop set, with the latter's explosive feature triggering C-3PO's devastating effect.

In addition, the 8007 C-3PO could also be converted into a fancy flying car or starship, although this design was never officially named the C-3PO. In 2002, the 8007 C-3PO was re-released as part of the Star Wars Movie 25th Anniversary Collector's Set, which also included the 8009 R2-D2, both of which belonged to the Technic family. LEGO Star Wars sets were available at the Toys"R"Us Store at the time and came with an exclusive limited edition commemorative poster.
