The Ford Mustang – aka Mustang – is a sports car series that was born in 1964. Over the past 60 years, it has become a symbol of American car culture with its outstanding sporty performance and unique irreverent style, with more than 10 million units sold worldwide.
The seventh-generation Mustang debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in September 2020 and began production at Ford's Michigan plant on May 1 last year. At the beginning of the Mustang generation, Ford introduced several track versions of the Mustang, such as cars for the NASCAR Cup, cars for the Australian V8 Supercar Cup, and several GT series cars. In addition to this, Ford has also re-enabled a high-performance street version of the Mustang called the Dark Horse.
Following Ford's introduction of the Dark Horse to China at the beginning of this year, at the end of June, the seventh-generation Mustang convertible sports version and hardtop performance version were also officially launched in China, of which the guide price of the Mustang convertible sports version is 439,800 yuan, and the guide price of the Mustang hardtop performance version is 389,800 yuan.
The design of the new Mustang embodies the latest evolution of American sports aesthetics, combining both road and track identities, allowing people to see its outstanding performance at a glance. Ford has also upgraded the Mustang GT exterior package for both versions specifically to meet Chinese consumers, which includes a sportier grille, 19-inch wheels and Pirelli P ZERO tyres, as well as a sports rear wing.
Powerful performance has been the foundation of the Mustang family's 60-year history. The seventh-generation Mustang Convertible Sport and Coupé Performance variants don't feature Dark Horse's Coyote V8 engine, but they do feature a high-performance fourth-generation 2.3T EcoBoost turbocharged engine. The engine features direct injection, variable cam timing, and a unique design for the intake manifold and turbine housing. This results in a maximum power of 300 hp and a maximum torque of 453 Nm, and with the help of a Ford SelectShift 10-speed automatic transmission, the two models can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and 5.6 seconds respectively.
In addition to its powerful power, the seventh-generation Mustang is also equipped with a Brembo high-performance braking system with 6 pistons at the front and 4 pistons at the rear. The standard 3.55 LSD limited-slip differential is self-limiting with a multi-plate clutch and the torque distribution varies according to the road, significantly improving the car's cornering ability. The Coupé also comes standard with the next-generation MagneRide active electromagnetic suspension, which adjusts the damping of the shock absorbers at a frequency of 1,000 Hz.
Not only does the new model have four powerful exhaust pipes, but it also comes standard with the industry's first Remote Rev function, which can be used to remotely control the engine from outside the car with a key to increase the revs to 5,000 rpm.
Another first-of-its-kind configuration is the Drift Electronic Parking Brake, which was developed by the Ford team in collaboration with drift expert Vaughn Gittin Jr. and uses advanced electronics to simulate the hydraulic drift brakes in the Formula Drift Mustang. With this drift electronic handbrake, even beginners can drift, and advanced players can use it to unlock the car's higher potential on the track.
At this Mustang Day, the highlight is undoubtedly a variety of drifting classes conducted through the electronic parking brake. With the help of the electronic parking brake, the new Mustang can easily drift without the need for fast speeds. In order to allow more consumers to enjoy the fun brought by the Mustang, Ford China has also launched exclusive programs in three aspects: financial plans, car purchase privileges and exclusive equipment. This includes the "5050" full exemption plan – i.e. zero interest rate and zero monthly payment, 50% down payment and 50% final payment after one year; Users can also choose between a five-year ultra-long-term loan or an ultra-low interest rate loan plan of 3.88%.
