Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV – a high-quality choice

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a car for taking pictures - test

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a car that was designed as an electric car from the start, and it's very eye-catching. In fact, you can't go wrong.

It is not one of the most commonly purchased electric models in 2023. The Porsche Taycan ranked 20th with 258 units sold. It's not a list of sales successes. The electric Hyundai Kona is in 15th place. This means that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a car that acts as an advertising banner, and other models also benefit from it. It's impossible not to look at it on the street, and its connection to the computer game Minecraft is obvious. The edges are not random.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 - a camera car

The car is designed so that you will never get lost in the crowd. It's impossible. Even if the number of cars driving around Poland is not very large, not a single one will go unnoticed and cause traffic of a hundred cars. No matter where you look at the Ioniq 5 from, it's quite unique. The front, rear, and entire angular shape of the car come from the reality of a circle.

It's an electric car and every step of the way emphasizes that. This is not even related to the fact that there is no burning version. There are a lot of elements here that should emphasize the emergence of new things, the previous cars, the ones that burn power, are boring, and the real enjoyment is interacting with electric cars. The flap that covers the charging port opens and closes in a fun way, and it's more than just a simple pop-up when the latch is released. This is the interaction with the charging port cover.

Doorknobs can hardly be considered standard. They are flush with the surface of the door and are a bit strange to use. I don't know if after 100 uses users start to get nostalgic for the old ones or get used to them. Hardly. In any case, he can hide the charging cable in a small compartment under the hood. It's more of a than a, but it's bigger in the version without all-wheel drive.

The interior has a controversial element

A grinding sound is only made when the door is opened. I'm not talking about the fact - of course, this is very exceptional - we can't find the manufacturer's logo on the steering wheel. Whoever decides that the inside of the Ioniq 5 is filled with gray plastic, it should be connected to an 800-volt unit. The Ioniq's drive system operates at this voltage, but that doesn't mean the car can be charged twice as fast as a 400 V system car.

Despite the coolness, it was decided to use plastic, which does not match the elegant, lightweight leather upholstery in the test model, for which you should receive at least a slight electric shock.

Electric pass-through

There is one thing that is the most electrified. Except, of course, that it is electronically controlled. The front seats can lie flat, for example while charging. The backrest does not tilt back, but the entire armchair, including the seat, leans back. However, the movable center console is manually controlled. Like in the 19th century, who saw it?

Even in the design of the armrests, the desire to stand out from the crowd was not abandoned. It looks like a glove box lid, the same as the old one, but without a glove box and with an empty space.

You can also connect a hair dryer here.

The rear seats are also adjustable (heated in the cars tested) and slide, and the shutters on the side windows limit sun exposure. There is no central tunnel, which means there is a lot of space. Of course, sitting in the back is no worse than sitting in the front. Such a set of features in the rear is difficult to find in an ordinary fuel car.

Finally you have to take off

The car is started by pushing a button. It was surprising and I expected that in the face of this desire to stand out, I had to say that a spell or a hidden camera would scan my retina. But no, buttons. Then use the selector on the steering wheel to switch to driving mode D. I like the fact that D is passed forward (up?) Movement to choose, rather than towards itself (downward) as is sometimes the case. Then we set off, rolling, rolling, better on a flat road, because it's not very comfortable on a rough road.

You can't put a backpack like this on a regular car.

You can choose to control the deceleration with the accelerator pedal. Then the car will brake or even stop completely. Then you don't have to hit the brakes at all. This operation of the vehicle is assisted by paddles on the steering wheel, which are used to change the level of recovery. Seriously, you can drive like that by braking with those paddle brakes. This daily recreation has to fight traffic congestion while striving for low energy consumption.

现代 Ioniq 5 - 能耗

Of course, energy consumption can be described as "it depends", this is an electric car. At a constant speed of 120 km / h, it consumes 25 kWh, but it has to heat the interior. In the city, I managed to achieve a consumption of 13 kWh, but also 20 kWh. I may have heated it more strongly in it then, or not at all. Only in the basic version, there is no heat pump on board. If you want basic equipment, you need to purchase a bundle to get it.

Another "electronic" thing I appreciate is the screensaver on the center screen. It might even have a name, such as "ev screen", but that might not be the most important. The important thing is that you can see here that this is the screen of an electric car. The vehicle's remaining mileage may be displayed there.

The really good thing is that it also shows the range that can be achieved without heating. In moments of crisis and doubt, you can turn off the heat, put on a jacket and confidently reach your destination or recharge. Although for electric vehicles, chargers are always the goal. I wasn't impressed by the multimedia system itself, I clicked on the faster and friendlier places.

Good image quality.

Once the turn signal is turned on, we will see a pretty decent image from the side camera here. Interesting, but helpful? Maybe I'll answer, interesting rather than helpful. At least it doesn't create confusion when the camera image replaces the side mirror. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 also has the option to set aside its own parking space. I suspect that if we think about time in terms of eternity, then one day we might actually benefit from it.

On-board power supply

Now in a dilemma. If it is an electric vehicle, should the charging power or the vehicle power be entered in the power bar first? Let's start with charging. The maximum power of the car is 350 kilowatts. The test car has 325 horsepower, and the base version has 170 horsepower. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, which, of course, is something that makes us happy.

One of the delightful (and unique) things is V2L support. With the right plug, we can charge the bike or blow dry our hair in the car. Seductive.

And it's hard to control the front seats like a regular car.

Konecranes Appliance Prices and Reasons for Their Popularity

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is priced at PLN 219,900. It's just that it's a version with a front-wheel drive and a 58 kWh battery. For the four-wheel drive Ioniq 5, you will have to pay at least PLN 293,900, but that's not the first place in the price list. If you have to buy an additional kit to install the heat pump and heat the battery, it may not make sense to buy the basic version. You'll also have to pay extra for tinted rear windows, or even for wireless phone charging. When you add up all the cool features I've written about (no, the back door blinds aren't standard), it's no longer a bargain. You know what American brands are lurking around the corner, appealing to all the customers.

You can buy a Kona Electric with front-wheel drive for PLN 168,900 or thousands of PLN for its updated version. About 300,000 PLN is very close to the 650 hp version with the letter N. Its price list starts and ends at 369,900 PLN.

Thus, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 plays the glorious role of a kind of "halo car", a car that should be talked about first, but changing the price list is enough to change this role.
