Sun Shuxian met with the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development of Kiribati

On July 1, Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and Director of the State Oceanic Administration, met with Kiribati's Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development, Ribanak Swar, and his delegation in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views and reached consensus on further high-quality maritime cooperation in a wider range of fields. Sun Shuxian welcomed the visit of Ribanatak Swo and his entourage. He said that maritime cooperation is one of the important components of China-Kyrgyzstan friendly cooperation. The two countries share extensive common interests in achieving sustainable ocean development, promoting the establishment of a just and equitable international maritime order, and participating in global ocean governance on an equal footing. The Ministry of Natural Resources of China is willing to work with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development of Kiribati to further enrich and enrich the China-Kyrgyzstan "Blue Partnership" and promote the work in three aspects: strengthen strategic convergence and demand docking, and build a solid foundation for the China-Kyrzegovina "Blue Partnership" with "small but beautiful" and "people's livelihood" cooperation projects; Promote the construction of cooperation platforms, encourage personnel exchanges between the two sides, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and inject impetus into the healthy development of the China-Israel "Blue Partnership"; Cultivating marine talents and enhancing marine development and management capabilities will be an important part of China-base marine cooperation.

Ribanatak Sworth thanked China for its long-term assistance to Kiribati's economic and social development. He said that Kiribati has outstanding geographical advantages, with an exclusive economic zone of 3.5 million square kilometers and abundant marine resources, but due to the level of marine scientific research and management capabilities, many sea areas are still "scientifically unknown", and he expects China to provide technical support and capacity training in marine research and development management. Kyrgyzstan and China share common interests and goals in implementing the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, implementing the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and enhancing the capacity of developing countries to participate in global ocean governance.

After the meeting, Sun Shuxian and Ribanatak Swo jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development of the Republic of Kiribati on the Establishment of a "Blue Partnership" Cooperation in the Marine Field, and witnessed the signing of the Agreement on Promoting Marine Cooperation between the Second Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and the Department of Earth Sciences of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development of the Republic of Kiribati.

Relevant responsible comrades of relevant departments and bureaus of the ministry and directly subordinate units attended the meeting.
