Chelsea have announced the signing of striker Marc Gieu from Barcelona.
The Blues triggered a £5million release clause in Gieu's contract with Barcelona last week and have now made the decision to move to Stamford Bridge. A statement from the club read: 'Chelsea are delighted to announce the signing of striker Marc Gieu from FC Barcelona.
'The Spaniard has agreed a five-year contract with the Blues, including a one-year option, and will be involved in pre-season with his new team-mates.
Speaking to Chelsea FC, Kiou said: 'It's a pleasure to sign for Chelsea and it's hard for me to sleep before I come here because I'm so excited. Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. ”。“ Now that I have the opportunity to come to Chelsea, I will do my best to be successful for the club. ”
The 18-year-old, who scored two goals in seven senior games for Barcelona last season, was also favoured by Bayern Munich. Barcelona have failed to convince him to stay after Giu's release clause was activated, while Chelsea have already won the race to sign him.
Following the £19million acquisition of Omari Keliman from Aston Villa and Tosin Adarabio on a free transfer from Fulham, Giu is Chelsea's third signing of the summer. Chelsea will soon announce the arrival of their fourth summer with Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Desbury-Hall on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge.
