It is understood that the Nansha National Cultural and Sports Complex is located in 21 Chung, south of Wanqingsha, and has become another sports complex built by China Resources Land after the "Spring Cocoon" of Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, the main venue of the Shenzhen Universiade, the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center, the main venue of the Xi'an Olympic Games, and the Dong'an Lake Sports Park, the main venue of the Chengdu Universiade.
The project includes a 60,000-seat comprehensive stadium, a 20,000-seat multi-functional comprehensive gymnasium, a 4,000-seat swimming and diving hall and an athletes' center, covering an area of about 58.6 hectares and a total construction area of about 480,000 square meters.
Among them, the 60,000-seat Grade A comprehensive stadium, with a construction area of about 186,000 square meters, has an international standard competition venue, a professional track and field training ground, and a complete field function, which can meet the holding conditions of domestic top events and international individual events, and take into account the multi-functional needs such as performances and exhibitions and the switching of three-purpose functional spaces to create a 5G intelligent venue.
The 20,000-seat gymnasium will become one of the largest gymnasiums in the country after completion, with fixed grandstand + telescopic grandstand, comprehensive horse track and other designs to meet the multiple needs of competitions and performing arts, and fully improve the utilization rate of the venue.
It can realize the rapid conversion of ice rinks and basketball courts, and can undertake top international events such as NBA, FIBA, NHL, etc.; More than 20 kinds of competitions such as gymnastics, basketball, ice hockey, handball, badminton, table tennis, etc., can also be held, such as large-scale performing arts activities, e-sports and other cultural and sports performances.

It is reported that the main stadium of the Nansha National Cultural and Sports Complex will start construction on August 31, 2023, and the gymnasium, natatorium, and athletes' center will start on September 28, 2023, and the overall construction is planned to be completed on June 30, 2025.
At present, a two-hall pile foundation project has been completed, the main concrete structure has been capped, the steel structure has entered the finishing stage, 14 professional subcontractors such as metal roofing, curtain wall, comprehensive mechanical and electrical, fire protection and so on have fully entered the site, and nearly 3,000 personnel from 18 participating units have been working 24 hours a day on site, under the premise of ensuring quality and safety, to achieve the basic sprint efforts of the façade by the end of 2024!
At the same time, another "big subway" in the Greater Bay Area, the South-China-Zhuhai Intercity, is also in full swing, and the first section (Wanqingsha Station (exclusive) to Shijiyong Station (inclusive)) is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in October 2025.
After the completion of the line, it will be operated in a "public transportation" mode, and passengers do not need to take the bus regularly, "buy a ticket and get on the bus". At that time, citizens from downtown Guangzhou can take Metro Line 18 to the Nansha National Cultural and Sports Complex in the southernmost part of Guangzhou within 40 minutes.
In addition, the Wanqingsha branch of the Shenzhong Channel, located near the Nansha National Cultural and Sports Complex, is expected to complete the entire construction work by the end of October this year, and reach the conditions for completion and opening to traffic within the year. After the project is completed and opened to traffic, the driving time from Nansha to Zhongshan City will be shortened to less than 15 minutes, and the driving time to Shenzhen will be shortened to less than 20 minutes.
