On the afternoon of June 28, under the guidance of the United Front Work Department of the Municipal Party Committee, the Municipal European and American Returned Scholars Association and the United Front Work Department of the Hongkou District Party Committee co-sponsored the "From Here to the World" - a seminar and exchange activity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the 105th anniversary of the work-study movement in France.
Before the event, Wang Jue, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the Municipal Party Committee, had a discussion and exchange with experts and scholars attending the event, as well as the descendants of the ancestors who studied abroad.
From March 1919 to December 1920, 20 groups of nearly 1,800 young people from all over the country took boats from the North Bund and Huishan Wharf to France to "work diligently and study thriftily" to explore the truth of saving the country and the people. The work-study movement in France has cultivated a large number of talents for China's revolution, construction and reform. Carrying out discussions and exchanges on this historical event will help to draw experience and enlightenment for the current united front work of returned overseas students.
Zheng Hong, member of the Standing Committee of the Hongkou District Party Committee and head of the United Front Work Department, said that the commemoration of the work-study movement in France is to carry forward the tradition of studying abroad to serve the country, unite and unite the majority of returnees in the new era, and contribute wisdom and strength to promote Chinese-style modernization. It is hoped that the returned overseas students will keep in mind the original intention of studying abroad, inherit the spirit of patriotism and truth-seeking, give full play to their talents, devote themselves to the torrent of innovation, entrepreneurship and creation, and show their youth responsibility in centering on the center and serving the overall situation.
Gui Yonghao, member of the party group and vice president of the Municipal European and American Returned Scholars Association, encouraged the returned students to have an in-depth understanding of the history of work-study in France, take the work-study predecessors in France as an example, and carry forward the glorious tradition of studying abroad to serve the country; Inherit the "Sino-French spirit", continue the extraordinary friendship, and make new contributions to telling the story of Sino-French friendship and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
In the discussion and exchange session, three experts and scholars, including Su Zhiliang, professor of Shanghai Normal University, Xie Wei, deputy director of the work-study memorial hall in France, Wu Xingde, associate professor of the School of Marxism of Chongqing University, and Zhao Xinyan, the grandson of Zhao Shiyan, the ancestor of studying in France, expounded the development context, historical significance and important contributions of the work-study movement from different perspectives, and deeply cherished the ideals, beliefs and patriotic feelings of the ancestors who studied abroad in pursuit of scientific truth and unremitting struggle. Xiamen International Bank Shanghai Branch and the Party History Office of Hongkou District Party Committee made exchange speeches on "inheriting the spirit of Jiageng and developing overseas Chinese finance", "excavating and sorting out historical materials, and carefully curating".
In this activity, several descendants of the ancestors of studying abroad donated a number of books and materials to the Party History Office of the Hongkou District Party Committee in order to support the study of historical archives, and the "Blue Bird of the Sea" French interpretation volunteer team of the European and American Returned Scholars Association was also established at the meeting, showing the strong responsibility of the young generation to tell the stories of the ancestors of studying abroad and inheriting the spirit of studying abroad to serve the country.
The event was co-organized by the Hongkou Branch of the Municipal European and American Returned Scholars Association, the French Branch, and the Party History Office of the Hongkou District Party Committee, and co-organized by Xiamen International Bank Shanghai Branch. More than 50 people, including representatives of the Hongkou Branch of the Municipal European and American Returned Scholars Association and the Seniors of the French Branch, participated in the event.
Before the meeting, the participants also visited the exhibition of the historical materials of the work-study movement in France and the history of Xiamen International Bank. Since its launch on March 31, the exhibition has received nearly 80 batches of more than 1,000 visitors.
