A 2021 study found that there is a clear link between "time to sleep" and cardiovascular disease risk, with both going too early and going too late being bad for your health.

The study selected nearly 90,000 participants aged 43-79 years, and 3,172 participants developed cardiovascular diseases including: myocardial infarction, heart failure, chronic ischemic heart disease, stroke, and transient ischemic attack during an average follow-up of 5.7 years.

The researchers found that compared to those who went to bed at 22-23 p.m.:

■ Going to bed before 10 p.m.: 24% increased risk of cardiovascular disease

■ Going to bed at 23-24 p.m.: 12% increased risk of cardiovascular disease

■ Going to bed at 24 p.m. and later: 25% increased risk of cardiovascular disease

In other words, there is a U-shaped relationship between the time of falling asleep and the risk of cardiovascular disease: going to bed too early and sleeping too late will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease; Falling asleep late at 24 a.m. and later is at the highest risk; 22-23 p.m. is the "best time to fall asleep"!

People who sleep too much have a higher risk of heart attack

It's best to sleep in this range!

A 2019 study with a sample size of nearly 500,000 people, unlike previous observational studies, showed that even if you don't smoke, exercise regularly, and don't have a genetic predisposition to cardiovascular disease, you just don't get enough sleep or sleep too much, and the risk of heart disease increases.

Compared to people who slept 6-9 hours per night:

■ People who slept less than 6 hours had a 20% higher chance of having a heart attack during the study period

■People who slept more than 9 hours had a 34% increased chance of having a heart attack during the study period

People who sleep too much are at a higher risk than people who don't get enough sleep! The more sleep time deviates from the range of 6 to 9 hours, the higher the risk of heart attack.

Compared to those who slept 7-8 hours per night:

■ Sleeping 5 hours per night increases the risk of heart attack by 52%

■The risk of heart attack is tripled when you sleep for 10 hours

Researchers believe that 6-9 hours of sleep per night is the most beneficial sleep duration for heart health.
