Water is the source of life, and it also plays a very important role in dialysis. Many people may not understand, isn't dialysis just about expelling toxins and excess water from the body? Why do we still need water?

To understand the role of water in dialysis, we must first know the basic principle of hemodialysis, which drains blood from the body to the outside of the body, through a dialyzer composed of countless hollow fibers, blood and electrolyte solutions containing similar concentrations of the body (dialysate) inside and outside the hollow fibers, through the principles of diffusion, ultrafiltration, adsorption and convection, to remove metabolic wastes from the body, maintain electrolytes and acid-base balance. To put it simply, the blood is exchanged with the dialysate in the dialyzer, which regulates the body's electrolytes and excretes excess water and toxins from the body. Dialysis water, which is the main component of the dialysate, is undoubtedly very important.

The core component of the water treatment system is the reverse osmosis membrane, which uses the principle of reverse osmosis and uses water pressure to make the water penetrate from the higher concentration to the lower concentration to ensure the quality of dialysis water.

During dialysis, each patient will be subjected to 15,000 to 30,000 litres of water per year, so dialysis water is also a therapeutic "medicine". In addition to the reverse osmosis membrane, tap water must be treated by a variety of purification facilities such as sand tanks, carbon tanks, resin tanks, and regenerated salts before it can be used for dialysis treatment.
