Since the Monaco Grand Prix, the form of the French Alpin team has seen a slight recovery, which may have something to do with the fact that the team has brought in a lot of technical engineers.
According to the latest news from within the team, three more senior engineers will start their official roles at Enstom on 1 July, with the three engineers coming from Red Bull and Ferrari respectively, with Broadhurst and Danani returning to Ernston as Chief Aerodynamicist and Head of Vehicle Performance respectively, both from Red Bull Racing, but previously Broadhurst spent seven years in Renault's aerodynamics department before taking on the role of Chief Aerodynamicist in 2016 before joining McLaren. Danani also played for Enstom from 2006 to 2011, and it's fair to say that both are long-time Renault employees.
Their arrival coincided with the start of his tenure as deputy chief engineer at Jakop van Tony, a colleague of David Sanchez's 13-year colleague at Ferrari who joined Alpin as the team's head of simulators.
The three senior engineers will start working for Alpin in July, which will have a positive impact on the development of the chassis next year and even for the 2026 model, and will also fundamentally fill the void left by the departure of former technical directors Matt Harmon and Deco Dibier. As can be seen from the above recruits, they are basically related to aerodynamics, which has always been the shortcoming of the Alpin team.
Alpin Racing has also restructured the team's R&D department, which will consist of three sub-divisions: David Whitt's aerodynamic design department, Ziaron Pilbeam's racing performance team, and Joe Burnell's engineering department, which will report to David Sanchez, executive technical director. In the most difficult period experienced by Alpin, the number of vacancies in the team's R&D department reached 15%, with the addition of three new recruits, the team's active staff in key positions has almost reached 100%, and the number of people at Enstom's headquarters will also reach 1,000, but it is still less than Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari as a manufacturer team, and even slightly less than McLaren.
However, recent indications are that Alpin's competitiveness is recovering with the addition of key players, and the team points have risen from bottom to eighth, while in the last three qualifying sessions, they have all made it to Q3 and are on the verge of overtaking Aston Martin.
With Briatoli as the team's executive advisor, it is expected that the team will make further moves in terms of driver market and team staff, such as the introduction of Sainz and the introduction of Mercedes engines in 2026, if these two things can be achieved, then the future of the old French team in 2026 is still worth watching, so let's wait and see.
