iPhone7 audio problem big reconciliation! Apple compensated 35 million affected users

Since the release of the iPhone 7 in 2016, the dust has finally settled on a class-action lawsuit over its audio issues, with Apple agreeing to pay a $350 million settlement. The good news is that even if you don't know about it, as an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus user, it's still possible to claim this compensation.

The original settlement deadline was June 3, 2024, but the Northern District Court of California mysteriously extended it to July 3, 2024. The lawsuit stems from an issue that iPhone 7 and 7 Plus users have with the "audio IC" chip, commonly known as "audio loop disease" or "audio IC defect". Some users will see a gray speaker button when they are on a call and will not be able to use the speaker.

Affected iPhone 7 users are also facing issues such as Siri voice commands not working, microphone sound quality dropping, and voice memo app functionality not working. Many of the key audio and microphone functions on the phone are out of order, forcing some people to pay for repairs or replacements out of their own pockets.

The court found that the following groups of people fell within the scope of the settlement:

The settlement is conditional on the fact that the issue must be reported or documented. Although Apple has not publicly acknowledged liability, those involved in the class action lawsuit can receive up to $349 in compensation if they had paid Apple for repairing or replacing an iPhone 7. Those who do not pay get $125. Although the amount is not large, it is a relatively substantial compensation compared to other such cases.

Of course, Apple and its affiliates, directors, officers and employees are not covered by the settlement. Judges, judicial personnel and their immediate family members are likewise excluded.
